I don't mean to start another Dream thread, but Fox Sports radio is reporting that Hakeem is close to signing a multi-year deal with Toronto! They're not saying rumor, they claim it is close to happening. Is this Fox just crossing their signals or is Dream in serious talks with Toronto!? ------------------ "Instruments are like women: After a while, you want to make love to another." - Nicolas Godin of the musical duo Air [This message has been edited by RocksMillenium (edited July 19, 2001).]

Trust me this isn't another "Dream to Toronto" thread like the rest, Fox Sports Radio said that Dream is close to signing the contract with Toronto, they didn't say that he was in negotiations with them, or took an offer from them, they act like he is going to put his signature on a contract! ------------------ "Instruments are like women: After a while, you want to make love to another." - Nicolas Godin of the musical duo Air [This message has been edited by RocksMillenium (edited July 19, 2001).]
OK here is the Hurricane Warning procedures. In the event a signing happens, this server will get hit hard by a storm of users. 1. Searching will be turned off 2. Please do NOT hit refresh over and over. 3. Please do NOT use multiple browser windows until the storm is over 4. If you we get hit by a big wave, and can't recover immediately, you will see an error msg from your browser saying you cannot locate the site. That means we are resting the server, for another go at it. Please do not hit f5 crying for the server to comeback up. Just check once everyone 5 min or so. Don't stampede. If these Hurrican Warnings are not followed, I will do my best to make sure the server does not crash, forcing a manual reboot by our host. That means I will likely turn off the apache webserver for the bbs, for 30-60 minutes. batton down the hatches! we may be in for a rough ride
its also being reported on ESPN http://espn.go.com/nba/news/2001/0718/1228065.html ------------------ I figure the odds be 50/50, I just might have something to say.
RocksM thanks for the scoop, God I hope you are wrong! Crispee thanks for the warning, luckily I'm going home in an hour so hopefully I won't have to deal with it tonight! I don't even want to think about this!
Thanks 4chuckie, I hope I'm wrong to! Man, oh man this is nerve racking! ------------------ "Instruments are like women: After a while, you want to make love to another." - Nicolas Godin of the musical duo Air [This message has been edited by RocksMillenium (edited July 19, 2001).]

What I wanna know is how the heck did Fox get this story before any of us? Pops? care to elaborate? ------------------ I figure the odds be 50/50, I just might have something to say.
rockHEAD- Is there any bottled water left at Whole Foods? crispee-it looks like we'll get to see if CD/RT stand firm on 1 year to maintain cap wiggle room next year. Let's make sure Boylen's dog doesn't bite Cato. ------------------ "I always thought Hakeem was the better offensive player and DRob the better defender." Spurever Shaq would probably agree.
From a report I heard, the deal is for 3 YEARS!!! No WAY we sign a guy who will be 40 in the second year of the deal to 3 YEARS, $15 million (the estimate I heard). I am willing to bet that Olajuwon's ego is pushing him to sign a deal that is LONGER rather than simply BIGGER. The Rockets could not match a 3-year deal considering some of the biggest free agent names in years (Duncan, Pierce, et al) will be free in 2003. If he demands three years, the Rockets should NOT go out and sign him. Period. ------------------ How the hell should I know why God would allow the Holocaust. He had said his 16th pro basketball season would be his last as he recovered from a blood disorder that sidelined him for up to six months. It's shoddy reporting like this that makes me lose more and more respect for ESPN! ------------------ "Instruments are like women: After a while, you want to make love to another." - Nicolas Godin of the musical duo Air
At least well get to see him on national tv every week. ------------------ mgh 1924 - 2001 http://www.al-gore-2004.org/
The proposed offer is 3 years at the mid-cap exception, bringing the value to about $18 million. Supposedly the Rocks countered with 2 yrs at $20 million. Given the choice between the two, I'd say it's obvious - stay in Houston Hakeem! Who cares about three years when the Raps obviously have no chance to win the title at any point in those 3 years? The Rockets are the better team - now and for the future - and are in a much better environment compared to the Raps. Plus, figure in that exchange and tax rate and the Rockets offer looks even better. ------------------
It seems a little fast for them to have finalized a trade. He was just in Houston buying trees yesterday! I'm going to wait for one of the national websites to confirm any signing before I comment further. ------------------ I'm so amazingly cool you could keep a side of meat in me for a month. MF- I think Toronto has the chance to win the East next year with Dream. I can't see us winning the West within 3 years unless something happens to Shaq or Kobe. Even if that happens we still have to go thru an improved Kings, Spurs, & Dallas. In the East you have Miami and Philly who (IMO) are weaker than the Lakers, Spurs (assuming they resign DA & David) and Kings. Neither the Rockets or Toronto with Dream are the best team, but Toronto in the weak East could legitimately be the pre-season favorite to win the East.
