Just a basic recap of what's been going on lately and who's scheduled to workout out next week with a couple of quotes from CD. Nice stuff-- esp. on Ken Johnson... looks like he has a better jumper than we thought.

Draft work -- The Rockets have worked out centers Brendan Haywood, Loren Woods, Michael Bradley, Eric Chenowith and Ken Johnson. But don't read anything into the parade of big men.

"They're seniors," Rockets general manager Carroll Dawson said. "They didn't release the other list until last week."

Teams could not begin setting up visits with underclassmen and high school seniors until that list became official.

There is, however, another reason the Rockets have not had Shane Battier or Eddy Curry through the halls of Westside Tennis Club yet. Agents usually don't start the meet and greets for top players with a team picking at No. 10 and beyond. They probably can't set the market for their player that way, but they can try. The top players visit teams at the end of the lottery next month, but they will start with those at the top.

As far as the players the Rockets have worked out, Dawson said no one stood out.

"They've all done well so far," he said. "Johnson and Chenowith shot the ball better than we thought. Bradley is a good all-around player. Wood was quicker, a good all-around player. They all did well. As we say, they didn't cut themselves."

The Rockets are scheduled to work out forward Terence Morris of Maryland, forward Sean Lampley of California, forward Michael Wright of Arizona, forward Jarron Collins of Stanford and forward Brian Scalabrine of USC.

I noticed in the first paragraph that Michael Bradley is grouped as a center. I wonder if the Rockets think of him as a PF or center? My opinion is that Michael Bradley could play center if and only if he bulks up and adds strength. As of now, I would consider him a tall PF.

I thought Forte would be the steal of the draft but now Johnson is making a case for it.

if we take loren woods @ #13, would we still want ken johnson @ 22?

i think we do. with dream out for his usual 20-30 games due to injury, i think taking two solid, shot-blocking, bigmen is a good idea.

we don't want to play cato, rogers is most likely gone, and collier is talented, but soft (and is more fit for a PF spot).

Who says we don't take Ken Johnson and not Loren Woods? In my experience, saying someone is a good "all-around" player means they did not impress in the workouts in any particular way.

But look at Ken Johnson, we already know he's a stunning shot-blocker, but now comes the revelation, almost under the radar, that he's a better shooter than they expected. And the Rockets like good shooters. I think the Rockets are targeting Johnson from this bunch.

Damn, trying to figure out GMspeak around draft-time ain't easy. Its like a riddle, wrapped in an enigma, smothered in secret sauce.

If CD says anything optimistic about these players, then there's no way he's interested in them.

Who's the one player CD didn't mention that he's already worked out?

    Brendan Haywood

He said something about the other guys, why did he not comment on Haywood?

My guess is probably because he interests the Rockets the most.

What kind of idiot would say good things about players they want to draft knowing another team drafting ahead of them is listening?

Yeah, but what if he didn't say anything about Haywood knowing the other teams would be listening for him to not say something about Haywood indicating the Rockets were interested in him. Then what?
