Well, it's draft day, and we're T-minus 9 hours away. Who, at pick 7 or later, is the guy you are after and want the Rockets to select? It appears impossible to trade into the top 6, so likely Brown, Curry, Chandler, Gasol, and Richardson are all off the board. Eddie Griffin probably will be off the board as well. However, after then is where it gets interesting. Almost any player left after those 6 has a legit shot at falling to 13 or near it (except Rodney White), and from what some sites are saying we have a legit shot at trading for 7.

So who are you leading the cheering section for? What is your dream player for tonight? (only somewhat realistic ones)

I will start off the thread by forming the Shane Battier bandwagon... he's everything we need. I doubt he falls to 13, but there's a slight chance according to a couple of places, and I'd think the Nets and Pistons would be willing to trade down just a few spots to get an extra pick. Go get 'em Rudy!

If the rockets can get Battier, I will be estatic.

If the rockets get Jefferson, I'll be disappointed. He is good defensively, but short for the three....not much of an upgrade. He will allow the defenses to pack the middle more than they would. Not a bad choice, but I'm optimistic the rockets can get a better rebounder/shooter at the three that doesn't walt it on D.

Since we're talking about bandwagons, I choose to lead the biggest bandwagon according to Clutch's poll.

We should find a way to get Rodney White, I hear he's not that bad. Also my bandwagon currently has 410 people on it compared to Battier who's not even listed in the poll. Let's pretend he's "other", well that gives your bandwagon only 90 people.

YOUR BANDWAGON IS TOTALLY OUTNUMBRED BY MINE CAT, RESISTANCE IS FUTILE!

I think most people considered Battier a lock for 3 BGM... [IMG]

I'm on the Joe Johnson bandwagon. Being an Arkansas fan, I've seen this guy play for almost two years, and he is the real deal. If there is anyway the Rockets could draft him I would be dancing in the streets.

Toss me in the Battier bandwagon. I've probably seen the guy play 40 games. He's the real deal for 12-15 years in the NBA and ESPECIALLY he is a young man of unquestionable character who makes his teammates better.

If the premise is that Shane Battier will be there after the six ... that is the problem.

    'Cause he won't be.

I would be happy with any one of those three... but I'll put in my vote for Battier as well.

He's everything he needs to be... out of the way and giving you 48mpg. He's a team player, he'll keep the team talking, the guy will put the Rockets into the playoffs this year, and he's definitely good bait for big mature Power Forwards(I really need to restudy 2nd grade grammar). [IMG]

I'm sure that Rudy flipped out on Rodney White's offense... all he did this past year was drool over Mo Taylor's ability to put the ball on the floor.

But I doubt that he'd pass on Battier.

I'm in the Battier bandwagon too. He's gonna be one heck of a pro. Whatever Rudy can do (other than trading cat and steve) to get him here I would endorse.

Who do you see taking him? If the Grizzlies take Gasol or Chandler at 3, the Bulls would take Griffin, the Warriors would take who was left between Gasol and Chandler, and the Grizzlies would take Richardson... right?? Are there any specifics as to why you think Battier will be gone?

Battier is making me nervous now! [IMG]

Why did he have to slip some? Right now, I can tell I'm going to be somewhat disappointed after tonight in any scenario that doesn't involve us getting Battier. I didn't worry about it before, cause I didn't think we had a chance to get him... now that we might, its BATTIER OR BUST!!

    While I really like Battier, more to the point is that he is the quintessential Rockets pick in this draft;
College Senior who's proved it all at that level...To be honest, I'm a little surprised at how little press the effect of his supporting cast has had on his production, but, that said, I'll take him in a heartbeat.I think you can have too many even-keel type guys on your team (case in point, Vancouver), but I think that the Rocks would be well served in getting at least one amongst their young starters...

My only other comment re: Battier to the Rockets is that, rumours or not, I feel there's no way he gets past the Celtics 2 picks...He's also their prototype, except for the tan...

I don't think the top 6 picks are that easy to predict. It's not a certainty by any stretch, but Battier to Chicago at #4 is just what they need. I would say that taking Griffin at #4 is a terrible pick for them. They need a leader and a winner on that team in the worst way.

I don't see the Warriors taking Battier, but he would be a good pick for them, as well. GS could use more stability on their roster, and Battier is stable if nothing else.

The Grizzlies at no.6: Everyone's had them taking Richardson. But that was assuming Battier would gone at #3. What if he is there at #6? They could take Battier, and Richardson could drop a spot or two. If you're Memphis, and you're smashing last year's team to bits, you could do worse than starting over with a sure thing like Battier. One of Vancouver's problems was that they lost close games because noone on their roster had the huevos to step up and hit big shots in clutch time. Every college basketball fan in the country knows that Battier can hit big shots.

    -whew-

That being said, I'll hitch my wagon to Joe Johnson. He's the smoothest player in the draft. And with Steve and Cuttino to motivate him, watch out.

In logic, if the premise is false, then the conclusion is, by definition, true.

If the Rockets can find a way to land Rodney White, I'd be overjoyed. Diop, Griffin, or Gasol would all also excite me a bit, and I believe Diop has the best chance of falling from the group.

Cat, I'm getting the same feeling as you. If the Rockets have a shot at Battier they need to go after him(I dont care about the bet).

I'm also hoping the Rockets have a chance to select Loren Woods with their second pick.

If the Rockets managed to add Battier and Woods I'll be estatic as well.

    Shane Battier
    Loren Woods
