boston: if you were coaching who would you want as your point guard. nash, marbury, francis, bibby, or payton. and in what order would you rank these pg's.

Dr. Jack Ramsay: Of the players today...I'd take Jason Kidd...not among those you list...in that group I rate Bibby, Nash, Marbury, Payton, Francis in that order...all great players, but with that priority.

Dr. Jack also said that if the Rockets don't make the playoffs this year then Rudy should elect to step down.

Yeah right. What is Jack smoking? As much as I would love to see Rudy step down. There is just no way this will happen.

when are people going to get off of bibby's jock? does it amaze anybody else that he gets as much respect as he does, and all he really did was have one great playoff scoring run??

the guy ain't all that good.

I think he got it the wrong way around, how the hell can you pick Bibby, Nash and Marbury over Payton? I Still think Francis is a better PG then Marbury.

    See.......shows he's too old. :)

Well we still must respect him!!! Even though I don't even care to know who he is.

Marbury is better than Payton? I know everyone hates Payton, but that is just dumb. Payton is smarter......maybe Marbury is more athletic.

But BIBBY..The only reason people like him is because they saw him in the playoffs. And the only reason he is good is because he actually has SHOOTERS......unlike Francis......and has CHRIS WEBBER.

Depends on whether your building for the short-term or the long-term. Perhaps he was thinking long-term.

    No he didn't.

"Dr. Jack Ramsay: Rudý's done a great job with the Rockets...it's tough to work Yao in with the mix of players he has this year. Coaches get rated on results though, and if the Rockets don't make the playoffs, Rudy may elect to step down. "

Well how do you take Payton over Francis? Francis is the youngest in that group if I remember correctly.

    Heh!

Well if it was long-term, maybe Marbury is better. But he would end up being traded anyway.

Well this guy is obviously biased. He supports the Lakers, right? So he hate us with Yao and Steve. :(

Oh well. WE JUST GOTTA MAKE THE PLAYOFFS!!!!!!!!!!!

seems about right. Francis is the most athletic and explosive out of those two...sort of like a 2 guard:confused:

Bibby is the second best point guard in the league? He must have misspoke, that's the only explanation I have.

Hmm...old men. He might have reversed it.

He meant Francis, Payton, Marbury, Kidd. :)

Didn't Dr. Jack trade away Wilt Chamberlain back in the 70's for a couple of scrubs? Hmmm...

I don't know about Nash and Payton, but I think that Steve is definitely better than Marbury and Bibby, who BTW is way overrated.

    MM-
IMHO, virtually every PG rating you will find that is done by a former coach or former player will almost always rank Francis and Marbury low in the PG rankings. The logic is simple - all of the other PG's are P1S2 while Francis and to some extent Marbury are S1P2. Most coaches and a great many former players are "Old School" and P1S2 is the established pattern for success. I can't name one NBA championship team with a PG that was S1P2 can you?

Bibby always gets pushed up due to his clutch performance in last year's playoffs. I think it's rightfully given because it was the most clutch performance we've seen in a while. Then again I still wouldn't put him #2 behind Kidd. Payton was way too low on the list. Marbury is a punk so he should get dropped down.

If you know Ramsay, you shouldn't be surprised. Just look the teams he has coached, college or pro. He is a Deam Smith/Bob Knight kind of guy who likes players who fit his system.

Kidd obviously is the best candidate for that purpose, Bibby & Nash fit the bill as well. Payton would be great is he is 5 years younger. Both Murbary & Francis are PGs with shoot first mentality. I don't think that sit well with an old system guy like Ramsay.
