Hey, for those of you who download music legally for your ipod, how do y'all do it? Through itunes? Or is there an alternative that's less expensive? What's the best, cheapest way to get the most songs possible legally?

    Thanks.

Piece of advice for you, download against the law. If you like it then go and buy CD. If you hate it just delete.

    yes through itunes

songs are usually 99 cents to 1.29 a song

there could be other services our there that may charge a little less but as far as I know itunes has the largest catalog of songs available for legal download.

Also most if not all single-cd albums on itunes are 9.99 or cheaper

also, buy used CD's...retail or online...and rip them onto your PC and drop into ITunes. Cheaper than $1 per song

Amazon.com's mp3 store is usually cheaper by like 30 cents than iTunes Music Store, so keep that in mind when making a purchase.

    What year is this?

Anyway, I used to use eMusic a lot. It's a subscription service. You choose a plan and pay a monthly subscription fee and you get a certain number of downloads per month. Right now, their best value is 75 song downloads for $30.99 per month. That's abotu $0.41 per song.

I prefer Amazon because it's a straight .mp3 that's in no way proprietary.

Absolutely. You can point iTunes to an .mp3 (or a folder of .mp3's) and have it suck them all in to the iTunes library.

I actually had a point where my iPod stopped recognizing everything I had purchased through iTunes as being purchased by me. Very irritating.

Zune pass always seemed like a good deal. It used to be like 15$/month for unlimited downloads I think.

iTunes doesn't really have any DRM anymore, either. It's just the format is not mp3. If you have a player that recognizes .AAC there's no difference between Amazon and iTunes except sometimes Amazon is cheaper (sometimes it isn't).
