Although he doesn't mention Hakeem, he does talk about Barkley and Ewing:

Collins also tried to put to rest the notion that the Wizards would add every aging big name from Charles Barkely to Patrick Ewing to play alongside Jordan if Jordan does return.

``People have said Michael was going to put together a '92 Dream Team revisited,'' Collins said. ``That's not going to happen.''

Throw in Malone and we'll call it an old person's home shindig!

...because their playoff roster is down to 7 players (2 of which are rookies) due to arthritis...

I doubt they'd win more than 50. I wouldn't bet against Jordan, but I'd be surprised if another one of them could average 15pts again. Hakeem... might. But I doubt it. Nobody else is going to, unless they traded for Malone [IMG].

Haven, you may be underestimating those guys.

I could see them platooning Dream and Ewing at Center. If they could swing Malone, and have Barkley, and Jordan, and their young guys, they could do some damage in the East.

    And, to paraphrase Rudy...

"Don't ever underestimate the bad refereeing that can take place when the NBA and NBC have TV shares on the line."

That's a pretty dangerous team with Malone. And it IS possible that if the Jazz don't re-sign Stockton, and Malone is offered a chance to be traded to help the rebuilding process that Stockton and Malone could wind up in Utah. But if Jordan puts together a good supporting cast, which is possible, that's a pretty dangerous team. Barkley with 2 bad legs, 500 lbs, blind, with a bad arm and on his death bed could grab 10+ boards a game. I wish he could team our big men to rebound. Add a could crew around them, Hakeem, an in shape Ewing, and some young athletic teams, and with them being in the East, that is a deadly team. I agree with DaDakota, throw Malone on that team with a decent PG, or with Stockton and they win 57 games. This is going to be a wild offseason! Lets get some help in here for the Rocks and lets get to the playoffs!

lol...funny how Collins, the lead NBC analyst for the last few years, becomes head coach. How else are the NBA and NBC going to slip money to and/or threaten the refs if they don't give MJ and co. the edge. [IMG]

Man you guys might be on to something. I tried to avoid the conspiracy theory, but Jordan comes out of retirement, all the legendary players follow him, he gets the #1 pick in the draft, and his head coach is one of NBC's top analyst. This is weird.

I'm glad to see Collins return to coaching just so I don't have to listen to him anymore during games.

Sometimes I just want to yell "Put a sock in it, Doug."

He is over the top effusive. He gushes compliments about some of the players.

I never liked him when he was coaching, but at least I didn't have to hear him talk all the time.

Danny Ainge I hated as a player and a coach, but I thought he did a decent job calling a game.

BTW, the Wizards site has the entire Doug Collins interview. It has a lot of insights into their thinking. The most significant items are these:

    1. Alexander, Hamilton, and Jordan as 1-2-3 possibility.

    2. Very impressed with big high school kids.

    3. No mention of Dream, and denial of the legends tour.

    4. Michael makes the call on the pick.

    5. Trade is a possibility with the pick.

    6. Michael is stronger and would play the 3.
