Anyone else think that Dorsey will be going to the NBDL this season?

I think he has a long way to go, and rather than rot on the bench behind Yao, Scola, Landry and Hayes...that he goes to the NBDL.

I like Joey, but he needs to play, he needs to work on his defensive rotations, and his offensive game....

I think he goes to the NBDL at least for a while.

I would think he will do a bit like Aaron did last year. Stay with the team for a while and then go down for a couple of weeks when he won't get any practice time with the team.

He didn't really look very good in the minutes he was out there last night. Had a rebound or two, but other than his technical foul and some banging he didn't do much.

Of course he didn't get many minutes, what like 5? So maybe we will see more of him in the Spurs game Thursday to better judge.

I think maybe .. maybe not. Dorsey is supposed to back up Yao as center (the main back up). Scola probably can focus more on pf position.

I'd honestly be surprised if he didn't play for an nbdl team. There isn't anything wrong with playing in the nbdl, it gives playing time to people that need it. (raw)

They don't want to send him too quickly, because he needs to be familiar with the team/indoctrinated. And they don't want to send him too late, or he'll be of limited help late in the season. But, I certainly expect to see him there a few months into the season. (Barring injuries)

All that being said, I hate to judge a player on such a limited amount of playing time. So, hopefully he surprises me. (Who am i kidding, I love to judge players this early! He's going to be a beast!)

Too soon to tell. Last night the offense wasn't going and Rick seemed to be throwing some combinations out there that we are never gonna see in the season... like the all scrub team. I wanna see him on the floor with the starters, hard to tell what hes gonna accomplish. Obviously hes not going to put up offensive numbers so I wanna see him on the floor with the offensive team.

first nba action for the guy... i wouldn't write him off just yet. however, he's still a raw second round pick and probable wouldn't play much. lets come back to this thread at the end of preseason.

It is too early to say if he will go. Give him more time.

If we sign Mutombo, it will be a good option, let him play and develop. But if not than we may give him a shot, it may work because he really looks promising.

Maxiel didn't play at all as a rookie and he was a better player. It takes time when you used to the bigger, stronger than anyone else. In the nba, every is big and strong at the 4/5.

I hate to say it, but Dorsey's career would be better served with JVG as a coach rather than Adelman. Our team still benefits a great deal from JVG's tenure - I'm not sure we'd be so good defensively if not for him. A lot of that is from JVG teaching the team and individuals how to defend.

For a guy like Dorsey who has all the tools but none of the fundamentals, a guy like JVG is best.

Dorsey would have absolutely not shot at getting PT under JVG. The only reason why Chuck Hayes saw the court under JVG was because he came from an ultra-disciplined basketball program. Dorsey just doesn't have have that.

However, he's in good hands with Elson Turner and Jack Sikma. I think they're doing a fine job in coaching our defense and our big men.

They say he's a good practice partner for Yao, because he's the sort of quick, mobile big man that gives Yao trouble. I can see them keeping Dorsey around for Yao to practice against. I also don't think they'd send him down until we had Mutumbo on the roster.

I see the rockets keeping Dorsey on the roster. He can physically play in the league right now, but like Clutch pointed out in his thoughts on last nights game (the rockets are in dire need of some length at the 4 position). Hayes, Landry, Dorsey and Harris are a bunch of midgets having to guard the likes of the Stoudamires, Gasols and Duncans of the the NBA world. It may come down to using Luther and a guy like Landry (I love Landry though) to aquire that coveted size. Who knows

Seriously? It was the first preseaon game, a little early for judgment like that isnt it? Ron Artest looked sloopy too but im sure he'll get better.

i think landry looked really good as a backup for yao, i think we should send dorsey to the nbdl to develop more lol technicals in the preseason are uncalled for

well the technical was because of a rule that is in the nba but not in college and the ref explained it to him afterwards. not a big deal (not sure if he will be fined for it though)

he'll probably go to the NBDL the offense and defense aren't easy things to pick up in this system. He didnt play too much in the summer league either this year because of his ankle injury remember. they'll send him down and bring him back up. he had some good rebounds last night he will be a good asset off the bench imo

5 minutes and off to D league, I'd hate to have DD for a coach.

Time will tell & that's what preseason is for. After a couple of 10 minute games or so we should have enough info to have this conversation.

    100%.

Seeing that our roster is crowded at the moment, Dorsey will DEFINITELY be sent to the D-league, just for a training ground for further developing his skills. I don't think Adelman would put Dorsey into the rotation without having him prove himself in the D-league.

I would rather have Harris on the roster than Dorsey.

Agree. Most people at the same time year ago wanted to waive Landry in favor of Harris and company. It's way to early in making predictions on young players, especially a physical guy like Dorsey.
