Almost everyone wants to draft Lewis? I really think that Lewis got his game but I'm a little skeptical about his defense and judgement on the court, he might put up good numbers night in night out. But Rashards defensive play, for me, is questionable. Donyell might not be as young as Rashard but he can score and has great defensive move with long wing span and he is 29 yrs old and willing to go to a caliber team that he can contribute and be the best. How much does it takes to sign Marshall? I don't know, maybe somewhere around 5 to 6 Mil per season. Let me know your analysis between Lewis and Marshall?
http://www.nbazone.net/teams/View_Salary.asp?TId=17 Donyell Marshall made $6,510,000 in the 2001-2002 season with the Jazz. Rockets can't come close to approaching what Marshall wants money wise. Which is good because we don't need him!
D MArshall is a prime example of how it can take several years for a highly-touted draft choice to finally come into his own. Coming out of college, Marshall was a celebrity pick, having led a high profile college team to a lot of success.. But then, after entering the league he practically vanished from the radar. It was usually with a surprised-sounding voice that commentators would mention D Marshall playing well with the Jazz.. always something like 'And Donyell Marshall does it again, he's really become a good player now, Fred." That kind of thing. Nice thing is, having to struggle for a few years is probably the best thing to happen to a lot of these kids. Teaches them to prize winning over all else, to be humble, and to understand the necessity of being a team player instead of all this 'me first' crap that goes on so often. Frankly, D Marshall is not as flashy a player numbers-wise as Lewis, but he obviously is well suited to being a solid role-player, as he ably demonstrated for Utah. He's not a star, and probably never will be, but he could certainly be a good veteran contributor on a team, and he still has several years left in the tank. Historically, Rudy has always loved guys like that. Problem is, we have a full roster, so does Rudy love a guy like that more than he already loves the guys currently wearing our jersey? Don't know. I would have to say that picking up Marshall instead of Lewis would probably go down as a genius move, along the lines of picking up Mario Elie. But if he comes here, someone would have to be simply cut, or dealt for a future pick. Certainly will be interesting to see what happens though...
RLewis: A True SF - 22yrs old - 17pts - 7reb - 40% 3pt fg Marshall: More PF than SF - 29yrs old - 15pts - 8reb - 31% 3pt fg Lewis all the way. Marshall's gonna want at least 7mil b/c he makes 6mil now and can anyone name a SF that Marshall can D up on that Lewis can't?
I really don't think that Lewis will settle for 6 to 7 mil a year. But his D is still doubtful. We need a veteran leadership like Marshall. besides he start becoming a better player, Like Nero said.
I don't think Marshall will be getting a pay raise at all. He's a pretty good player but has been criticized for years for being overpaid. Now, I doubt he'll be taking a significant paycut, but I wouldn't assume he'd make a premium on what he made last season. I'd start him around 5-6 million. But, I don't know why he'd want to leave Utah nor why Utah would want him to leave.
I don't think we need another sf at all. We have one veteran and two young sf's with potential along with our small ball and KT and Eddie. Not to mention Mo Tay sometimes gets minutes at the 3. I don't think it's worth it to disrupt what we allready have to sign a mediocre sf. However, if Lewis just fell into our lap, it would be very hard to turn him down. I say we do not need a sf unless Lewis states that he wants to come to Houston for less money.
