This is a player's bio and I hope we draft this kid ( unless we have a shot at Bargnani or Roy) 4 years at College has given him a strong foundation with a great skill level and solid fundamentals ... Hard worker who has developed a reputation as a great kid ... Extremely strong body ... Deceptively quick and athletic ... Sticks to playing in the post, where he dominates on the NCAA level ... Tremendous wingspan allows him to play like a 7 footer ... A real defensive presence, a shot blocker who won national defensive player of the year as a junior ... Averages close to 4 blocks per game as a senior ... Should be able to guard centers in the NBA ... Great rebounding ability, boxes out well ... Understands how to defend, has become disciplined (blocks a ton of shots without fouling out very often) ... Range on his jumpshot has shown improvement through hard work, along with his free throw shooting ... Fairly consistent out to 12-15 feet ... Posts up well and uses his strength well to score ... His post moves have really developed well in his 4 years at college, including hooks and drop steps ... Touch around the basket is good and converts well after contact ... This definitely is not a ESPN Sport Center highlight reel player but this is what we need - almost uncannily close to what we need!
That was intentional- my point being, this is what the Job Description our PF would have. Not difficult to get the name- not many seniors who fit the description!
Shelden. And I am fine with him as long as we move both Juwan and Swift and hand him 30 mpg from the get go. Then use Hayes as his backup and bring in one of Novak, Padgett, Garrity to spread the floor. I do not want him however if we are stuck with Juwan and Stro.
that would be my guess too. shelden williams. if the wing guys like roy and carney are gone then maybe. i like shelden a lot and think he would do well for the rockets, but after seeing the rockets last season we need athletic wing players who are versatile and can shoot more than anything else.
(Sticks to playing in the post, where he dominates on the NCAA level ... Tremendous wingspan allows him to play like a 7 footer ... A real defensive presence, a shot blocker who won national defensive player of the year as a junior) We need a guy who will stretch the floor and give yao his space Tim Thomas!!!
and then we have to pay tim thomas a ton of money to come in and not rebound and underacheive like he has done 99% of his nba career.
I was high on Shelden Williams but the shooting 4 talk has merit. If Shelden sticks to the block, his man can come and double Yao. If we have a 4 with serious range, and more shooters around the court, Yao's defender will be left there on his own to be slaughtered Admiral style. I like Shelden as a backup center, alot of the talk about trading picks with Orlando is interesting, i'd rather trade with NO for their picks and try to nab Carney and Williams in the one draft. It's a hell of a long shot though, and we still don't know who could fall to us at #8. Solid players drop every time.
I am not sure if you can FIX both our SG spot and PF spot this year. We may have to settle for a Shelden like player- and hope a guy like Novak can be used for the long range shooting part- since you really wont be expecting this guy to be a defensive force as well! WoW Carney/williams in the same draft- I would say it is very possible. I would even dream of Carney/Williams/ Gansey or Novak or White ( I would pick Ganser for IQ!) would be just wonderful. ( Frankly I would pick Roy over Carney) The thing about this draft is it is wide open- the teams have to do a lot more home work- that is what makes me hopeful. But again we are the Rockets- dont we routinely screw things up? If we can facilitate a PJ Brown trade- there may be something we can swing ( again I used the word "facilitate"- so don't flame me!)
Emeka Okafor was a superior shotblocker in college and the superior athlete and he doesn't even average 2 bpg. Don't expect Shelden to dominate the paint like he did in college. His lack of skills is also a concern. BTW, every single PF with any type of post skills lit him up last year. He simply cannot move his feet during one-on-one defense. He is a statue. I don't think he is a legit top ten pick.
It sounds good, but that's a pretty optimistic scouting report. With the way teams are going small and buzzing around all over the place, I'm not all that wild about Williams. I could see Gay and Carney being much more valuable as combo fowards.
Dont you get that with two guys in the post it is impossible for yao to go to work or tmac to drive if we can get a guy like ty thomas or tim thomas are team will be much more likely to win in the West. What is thought of adding a guy like Maggette for Stro and #8 i read an article saying its a distinct possibilite
Article from ProBasketball news: http://probasketballnews.com/silva_0425.html The game is definately changing. I'm 23 but i consider myself oldschool in my preferred style of play. I liked the game when it was a bit more physical.
Sorry i meant the players. Alot of big guys are too soft these days, i remember when every PF in the league was just nasty. Now they just float and flop on contact. That's why i like Shelden Williams-he's a throwback PF, but he's just not suited to todays NBA.
IF we had Maggette, he t-mac and yao could get rebounds we need another robert horry and if we dont get it t-mac will be done much to early because of the pounding he takes from to men standing around in the post
