Walt is a great shooter. We just got some bad luck as the minute we get him, walt goes into the BIGGEST shooting slump of his life. I remember when eddie johnson was in a big slump a few years ago. Trust me and CAlvin Murphy. All it takes is a few easy baskets(like layups), and the shooter gets his confidence back. When the shooter's confidence is high, he will easily start making his jump shots. The shooter of course is walt williams. Being an avid basketball player myself, i know what it takes to get out of a slump. And Calvin murphy also agrees with me as it was he who said all this(while EJ was in his slump). So, don't worry about walt. he knows he's in a slump, so there is a lot of pressure on him to make his shots. all it takes are a few easy baskets. With Walt out of his slump, we will be scoring a lot better and more efficiently.
Even if Walt was hitting the 3's, I wouldn't want him in the starting lineup. We need runners in the starting lineup, to mesh with Francis and Cato.
Walt can score .. He is in a slump and I understand that. But I dont think he should be a starter. He can help coming off the bench. But I know walt will bring back his shot. And when he does, Watch out.
Man I hope so because we really need him tonight. Maybe it's the curse Scottie Pippen left on the Small Forward position. I mean have you noticed the GOT ROCKED section Walt Williams, Walt Williams, Walt Williams... Sound familiar?
Let him work his way out of the slump in practice. If I was Rudy I would say to Walt, "Grab some PINE bub !" DaDakota
Walt needs to lose some weight, the end. He is capable of shooting, but capable of nothing else, due to being overweight.
I hate to say this about a Rocket player, but WORRY!!!!!!! It's time for a change, and that is at the 3!!!!!
walt will get his shot back soon enough. i agree that he should be coming off the bench. maybe bringing walt off the bench would calm him down so that he can get his shot back. It doesn't matter where he gets his shot back, in the starting lineup or in the bench. Just as long as he gets it back!!
Hey Caucasion, It is strange for some reason Rudy has this belief, that he should not change the starting 5 unless there is an injury. As though he doesn't want to hurt anyones feelings and upset them. But even further than that, someone could start the game 1-10, then be substituted by someone who goes 6-7. And come back from half, and Rudy stays with his starting 5, as though you can't change the lineup. I just believe if a guy is off that night, a change should be made immediately. I have no idea what I am talking about, but I do know we need to move someone else to the 3...........
Mack is the answer, he is better then Walt in every aspect. Defense, shooting, running. Sam Mack..though not a world beater would compliment this team WAY more then Walt. DaDakota
Agree with the cabbage (what's with the name btw?), if Williams only needs a few easy baskets to get back on track, why hasn't he got them like the rest of the team? I just don't think he can mesh well enough to be a starter, but if he starts nailing the 3's he could be great off the bench. As far Rudy still leaving him out there, one, Rudy is known to be more patient than most of us here on the BBS; two, he could be waiting for Walt to get his confidence back before using him off the bench--putting him on the bench first may destroy his confidence completely, and Rudy must still see him as valuable enough and it being early enough in the season to wait him out. But who do we put at the 3 if Shandon keeps this up from the 2 position? Seems we should leave him where he's winning games for us.
It is amazing how many people believe that Walt will get his shot back. When Drew started off the season in a slump, everyone said the guy stunk and couldn't shoot, and we needed to get rid of him. Why are we not saying that about Walt? Oh, I know, cause he looks older than 11! Right Francis3?????
Also because he has a nickname.. When bryce gets a nickname as cool as the "WIZARD".. Then he will get respect. What i got one.. Bryce " The 11 year old" DREW!!!
I agree with Rocketball! It's time for a change at the 3. This has been too long of a slump. But I have watched the Rockets for 6-7 years now, and I know Rudy is very patient, maddening so sometimes. I think it comes from being a player himself before coaching. IN fairness, Walt has been getting less and less minutes. He's on the way out of the starting five if he doesn't start producing soon, I think. Long overdue in my opinion. I'm so glad Rocketball brought up the point though about how Rudy always goes back to the starting 5 after the half no matter if someone else is having a better game. I really am a HUGE RUDY FAN but my posts show the substitution patterns, etc. along that line, BUG ME TOO. Making adjustments during the game is so huge, and if someone is playing well, leave him in. I don't know too much about the technical stuff in basketball but FLOW OF THE GAME is pretty easy to see. Don't mess with what works and what isn't working, give someone else a chance. But the Rockets are looking so good right now, I am sure Rudy is laughing at us all. Question: Anderson, Mobley and Drew were in at the same time. Does this mean Shandon was at the 3? Cus I find it hard to tell the difference between the 2 and 3 out there on the court. If Shandon plays the 3 (his shooting the last 2 games shows he can play the 3) with MObley and Francis - wow, how good would that be. The only negative is not much spark off the bench.
bballfanatic, I am with you on what a powerful lineup if you could start Mobley, Anderson and Francis. But I think you hit the nail on the head, when you said who would be your firepower of the bench. That is why I think there is no way you start Mobley right now, he is to important coming off the bench. This may be where Mack would really help, or who knows maybe Walt would do better coming off the bench. I don't know but Rudy really needs to try something new there. As far as the 3 goes, it just seems now days that a player is either a 2-3 or 3-4, so when you have a small line up in there, you move your 2 (this case Shandon) to the 3, and vice versa for a big lineup...
I just wish we'd sign Mack and let him try it for a while. He couldn't possibly do worse than Williams. ------------------ I have a dream.........his name's Hakeem.
A Mobley-Francis-Anderson starting lineup would be indestructable. If Shandon keeps up attacking the way he has, that trio could cause coaches fits. How do you guard something like that? All 3 can stroke the 3, take it to the rack, defend, run the floor. I think the only thing keeping Rudy from making a lineup change is roster imbalance. We need another backup swing player before we can dump Walt. Man would I love to trade Walt for John Starks.
