Obligatory "I can't wait for the 'Stros to return to relevancy and damn I wish we could get the Oilers name and colors back, if not the history" post.
there's a croatian post rock band called don't mess with texas that is actually pretty good http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BIYEQO0VzJk
Damn I miss that team. They were so much more interesting than the Texans. Warren Moon had the prettiest pass in all of football. <iframe title="YouTube video player" class="youtube-player" type="text/html" width="480" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/QxNuAcL2H74" frameborder="0" allowFullScreen></iframe>
I loved the Oilers, too. And yes, the Texans are absolutely thus far a train wreck. BUT… the Oilers were a giant mess of a franchise; let’s not forget that. Bud Adams was a terrible owner; their front office, coaches and/or players routinely made fools of themselves, the organization and the city; the team was bad (historically bad, in fact) far more often than it was good; and when it was good, it routinely underachieved and lost in ways that are still to this very day confounding. I don’t miss the Oilers at all. I honestly felt then, and still do, that the city, and the franchise, needed a fresh start. I’m glad we didn’t retain the name or colors and while I’ve not been overly impressed with Bob McNair, I’d take him over Bud Adams every single day and 13 times on Sunday. Yes, watching it sail into the arms of an opponent, especially when the game was on the line, was breathtaking.
not disagreeing with the main crux of your post, but he's saying the Texans are BORING, more than they are bad. I tend to agree although I do like rooting for quiet guys like andre
Oh sure - I would agree. But so was Olajuwon (after he matured); so were the Bagwell/Biggio Astros. There's no crime in being boring... as long as you win. I'd venture this would be a far less boring team if they were posting 10-6 seasons each year. Conversely, characters get old. Even when they were winning, Glanville grated on the nerves and was a massive distraction, for instance.
This is where we disagree. The columbia blue is pimp. The logo wasn't great, but at least it was symmetrical and very identifiable/had history... I hate deep steel blue (boring) and I hate that bull.
I, too, dislike the Texans' uniforms (though the logo is pretty great). I wish they had stuck to their initial color scheme.
Looks like somebody smushed the 49ers and Patriots logos together to create the Cleveland Cavaliers of the NFL. Actually, that would've been pretty fitting.
So how should I judge it? I prefer symmetry, I think it is simple and clean, classic. Am I not allowed to use my own subjective taste to judge art?
You're allowed to use whatever criteria, no matter how invalid or irrelevant, you like. Here are some great logos: Not one of those is "symmetrical", save an almost north-south symmetry on the Steelers logo. It's fine if *you* like symmetrical logos, but as far as the real quality of a logo, "symmetry" couldn't be less relevant.
