Houston Trade: Glen Rice Mo Taylor Jason Collier Recieve: Lamar Odom Tyrone Hill 8th pick Cleveland Trade: Andre Miller Tyrone Hill Get: Glen Rice Mo Taylor Jeff McInnis Clippers Trade: Lamar Odom Jeff McInnis 8th pick Get: Andre Miller Jason Collier Again this is from an insider so whether this pans out or not don't tar and feather me to it. As for the reasoning behind such a move by all parties... Houston gets a three, big man and another pick which gives Rockets a chance to get another quality player. Clippers get their point guard and center reserve. Cleveland ship out Andre Miller a man who has stated he will not be returning to Cleveland so they get something in return.
There's so much wrong with this trade, but here's the prominent problem: If the Clippers were giving up Odom, McInnis, and pick 8 for Miller, why wouldn't the Cavs take that instead of Glen Rice, Mo Taylor, and McInnis? I can't think of many teams that would prefer Glen Rice and Mo Taylor to Lamar Odom and pick 8... if there are, we need to get them on the phone.
As cool as that trade is for us, I don't see it happening. The Clippers get raped in that deal. They give up Odom and the 8th for just Andre Miller? They must really love him if that trade happens.
Most of these "fair" and "reasonable" trades lately has had the Cavs on the recieving end of the salary cap screw. LOL But knowing the Cav's and the competition in the eastern conference, they'd probably do it. Glen isn't a Western conference player. He's more suited to a half court set, and the ball could go through him first. Mo would do better in a conference less deep in big men. I guess Jason Collier's firewood for salary cap purposes. The sad part is that he probably won't be able to show his 'mad game' even in Clipper hell.
The Clippers would be all over this deal, IMO. Andre Miller is a substantially better player than Odom (right now) without the baggage. He brings a team and pass first mentality to a team loaded with young swingmen looking to become stars. He also fills the one position that they lack. After about pick 6, the draft is about level in talent from around 7-13. The Clips are said to want to unload one of their picks anyway. The problem is with the Cavs preferring Rice and Taylor to Odom and pick 8...
Some more thoughts. If the Rockets were to sweeten the deal for the Clips with their 15 (Rockets wouldn't keep it if they get the 8 anyways), the Clips could then trade the 15 and Andre to Charlotte for Baron Davis and another player to balance out the cap. But since you can't trade a player again until six months are up, it would be a four way deal. A little convoluted, but it could make all teams happy...
You're saying this came from ESPN, or from "an insider" ? I haven't heard anything about a rumor like this. Doesn't really look right to me -- Looks lopsided for the Rockets, so hope you're right .
Hmmm. Well heres the link to a board with someone elsewhere claiming it was ESPN's doing. My bad for any inconvenience. Unfortunately this doesn't look credible if this wasn't in the Insider as I don't order it. Just from a friend who sent me the link. HoopsAvenue
X-PAC, could you include a quote of the article, and the link to it... This one doesnt make any sense at all. We are over the cap, and have to get back within 15% of the salaries we give up, which doesn't even come remotely close in this situation... and Cleveland takes on these big salaries, when they won't even pay one of the best up and coming point guards what he's worth, because they are afraid of the luxury tax? I'd love that trade, but I don't see how it could happen...
I see two problems with this trade. 1) McInnis is a free agent & can't even be negotiated with until after the draft. 2) The last report that I read, indicated that Hill might retire. Sorry, no sale.
According to CBS Sportsline, there is a major deal on the table that would debunk this one. Basically, J. West feels that this draft is filled with enough talented players that he wouldn't mind trading down. He wanted Gooden, but now is offering the Clippers the #4 for both of their picks. L. A. wants Nikoloz Tskitishvilli and he obviously won't be available by the 8th pick. West wants Gooden and he is definately the guy who should go #4. But if you think about, with Dickerson playing the 2, Battier playing the 3, and Gasol playing the 4, where would they put Gooden? I guess West thinks the disruption he would cause will make some talented players slide down. This makes sense for both teams, but it all depends on whether L. A. has decided to start re-signing their free agents instead of living in the draft lottery every year. IMHO, if Kandi asks for the max, this trade doesn't happen. Clipps could use both picks to get Borchardt and whatever else they need.
X-Pac -- yeah, that message board post was a week ago. I'm afraid this is bogus. Not your fault. You just passed along what you thought was from them. No harm, no foul.
