I know Eric did not do well last year but I am not ready to give up on him yet. Watching him the yrs before last vs last yr leads me to believe: 1) Pike needs more time on the court to warm up. Playing short minutes for the Rockets put too much pressure on him to produce right away. Some guys do well off the bench and pull the trigger the second they step on the court. Maybe Pike is not that type. 2) This past yr, Pike received the ball out of his comfort zone quite a bit: ball was thrown at his shoelace or off to the side ... I think great shooters including the likes of Steve Kerr would also have problem with that. They need rhythms. There are fans cheering every Rocket but I no longer hear anyone talking up Pike anymore. I am now reforming the Pike's fan club and predicting a better year for him! Go Pike!
he seems to fit better on the new Rockets -- make them pay for doubling T-Mac or Yao but our 2-3 position seems crowded : T-Mac, JJ, Boki And Boki has more potential upside
Pike was bough here to be a spotup shooter. in Summary he was horrible at his craft. i much rather see a young Atheletic defensive work horse like Boki infront of Pike.
Guys like Turkoglu, Okur, and Ginobili getting 8-10 million dollars a year... that's all start money. the FA market is way distorted this year, people trying to play catchup, and some teams with huge cap space burning a hole in their pockets. if we have to pay Brent Barry anything much over 6 million a year, I'd rather just play with who we have. the way teams are spending all their cap, next year FA supply will far outweigh demand and quality players can be signed cheap. who knows with barry we'd contend... but maybe we can do that already and get a bargain or two next year.
I'm hoping we'll keep Pike and he'll shoot his way out of his abnormal shooting woes. I think the fact that he's never had a significant injury may have caused him to overreact to the ankle and maybe elevate with more weight on the other ankle that wasn't injured and also playing on a team that's above .500 for much of the time may have caused him to feel a little more pressure than he was used to while playing with the Clippers (it's easy to be loose when you're losing a lot and the expectations levels are lowered). We need as many perimeter threats as possible and I'd hate to see Pike go. I think his stroke is sweet and he'll regain it. I hope the little short intense bald man on the sideline doesn't ruin his confidence
Agreed. His history in the league can't be totally negated by one year bad performance. We need to get his $2mil/yr worth. BTW, we still have A. Griffin, a defensive specialist, who started for the Mavs a couple years ago.
Well he should of been hitting the open shots the Rockets gave him instead of missing them like he did. Like Steve he needs to work on his shot this offseason.
