The stories have started to leak out.

Do the parties research their potential candidates worse than teams do players?

    That is so funny.

I've been telling people for a while now just watch... someone is going to try and drop a mudslinging bombshell just before the election so stuff like this sticks in voters' minds.

Looks like the bombshell dropper, as expected, is Al "I invented bombshell dropping" Gore.

I just can't believe that he was able to keep this secret for so long.

Of course, I guess Gov. Richards couldn't use it against him in 1994 even if she did know. But you'd think as long as this presidential campaign has dragged on that this would've come out sooner.

Who says someone didn't dig it up sooner, say on the Gore staff, and held on to it until it would have the most effect? If this would have come out 4-6 months ago, it wouldn't have had any noticeable effect at all. Now, who knows what happens.

Maybe he should change his policy to

"I promise alcohol and cocaine will both be cheaper under my presidency"

    or

"Don't drink and drive, DRINK, DRIVE and use COCAINE"

And people wonder why people aren't interested in politics...

It didn't matter to me that Clinton smoked joints, that Gore admitted to smoking pot, and it doesnt matter to me what Bush did 24 years ago.
If it had happened while Governor, or when running it would have been a bigger deal to me.
Sad thing is that it is something he never told his girls either and they found out this way. I know I got a few things in my partying past I dont want you guys to know about! LOL
I think the Strong Bush supporters will stay with him, but I it might hurt him with any swing voters. I am sure Gore is loving tonight.

Well, I'll go ahead and throw out the theory that the Bush camp leaked this story.

You see, people tend to sympathize with the candidate whose getting mud slinged at them, and the Bush camp, in their infinite wisdom, knows this. So they decided to leak this story to make it look like the Gore camp leaked it. That way, they could get some sympathy votes in states like Florida where he's losing somehow.

Actually according to a site I visit it mentions that the story was fed to Maine reporters by a Delegat to the 2000 Democratic National Convention, the Lawyer in the original case.
Of course, the story is still developing.. But I see no reason why Bush would leak this when his record was cleaned in 1993 of this and his kids had no idea of it. But I smell Mr Gore all over it.

Well well well..... Just now on FoxNews it was announced that it WAS a Delegate for the Dems that leaked this out..
Must have been hard to hold out so long with this story.

For the democrats that support HATE CRIMES, does this count as one? It surely was done out of HATE.
Keep an eye out for more sludge from the Gore campaign Friday, Saturday, Sunday, etc..

They are already talking about Ralph Nader's sex life (since he is 60 and single)....

We should just despicable ads run with the James Byrd commercial. Or the Ed Asner phone calls to the Seniors. Or the Phoney lady saying she lives in Houston and cant let her kids outside to play because of the air quality.. Those are THREE seperate Ads, run this last week. And the person behind these ads is the guy we want as President? come on.

I do not want to underscore the situation, but this did happen 24 years ago.I for one say who the heck cares what happened to the man 24 years ago, this is just another sad attempt at mudslinging just before the election. The whole process makes me sick.

I read in Newsweek that Dubya hired a p.i. to investigate his own past. He wasn't excited in what he learned.

RocketMan Tex: You heard about that cocaine bust too, ehh? And how a man at the age of 31 (youthful indiscretion my a$$) for the first time in his life volunteered at his aunt's, coincidentally, half-way house?

Guys this wouldn't be a big deal at all if Republicans hadn't made such a big deal about Clinton's pot usage. I know Newt soothed the fire w/ his admonission, but something tells me that if this were Gore, this would have been a death blow in each of you guys minds.

Let me guess, MADD in all of their glory will have a press conference in the next few days in which they singlehandedly forgive Bush for all of his transgressions.

First off, let me preface this by saying it is not a slam on Dubya.

But, I do find it interesting that he has been campaigning on a platform of "Lets bring integrity and honor back to the whitehouse". He has been slamming Gore on a daily basis about his "lies and distortions".

Now this comes out. Is it just me, or does any of this reek of hypocrisy?

And I still believe that this is just a tip of the iceburge.

Okay, so maybe it was a slam.

Aah yes, Club Elan' on St. James Place. I remember it as if it were yesterday, rather than 20-odd years ago.

I simply wouldn't care what the man did if the Repubs weren't trying to force their vision of morality down the throats of every single American citizen.

This is a violation of his civil rights! He he! They don't have the right to bring that up and dig in his personal life.....that is worse than random drug testing in the corporate world! Ha ha!

    New Challenge:

There's an article in the Dallas Morning News in which Bush lies about his arrest record. No date has been given. Kudos to the first person that locates it.

    excerpt from The New Republic...

    The Enforcer
    By MICHELLE COTTLE
    Issue date: 11.29.99
    Post date: 11.11.99

Other times Hughes simply shuts down the conversation. Just after the governor's reelection in 1998, Slater pressed Bush about whether he had ever been arrested. "He said, `After 1968? No.' I said, `What about before 1968?' He said, `Well ...' and at that moment Karen stepped in and said, `Wait a minute, I've not heard this.' She clearly wasn't prepared for whatever it was he was about
to say, and he shut up." Slater argued that it was better for the governor to deal with any revelations sooner rather than later, and
Bush agreed to get back to him on the matter. "To this day I have no idea what he was going to say," says Slater. "After she got to
    him, he shut up."

Slater is a reporter for the Dallas newspaper.
