Take it from a journalist. The job of reporters is to ask questions that will make news. Reporters love to ask a politician over and over whether he wants to be George W. Bush's running mate. Unless the politician says, "Never, I swear, on my mother's grave, and don't EVER ask that question again," the next day's newspaper will report that the politician "refused to rule out" running for vice president. This is what reporters are now doing to Mobley. They are going to ask him over and over again whether he'll leave Houston. Every time he says "no comment" or "I want to get paid what I'm worth," the newspaper will make it sound like Mobley is ready to bolt. The reason the reporter draws this conclusion is because it makes waves and gets people talking about the interview. THERE IS NO BASIS FOR THIS CONCLUSION. Maybe Mobley will bolt, and maybe he won't. But it's not fair to infer that he'll bolt simply because he said "no comment" or "I want to get paid what I'm worth" when a reporter shoved a mike in his face and asked him an aggressively leading question.
Will, Glad your on our side. Thanks for the insight! ------------------ "There is Francis backpedaling at full speed to guard Seattle All-Star Gary Payton on a fast break and then leaping as if off a springboard to make a spectacular fingertip block on what appeared to be a sure layup."
I would bet my 68 Mustang that Mobes is in a Rocket Uni next year. But then I don't have that Pony anymore. I lost it in a pre season bet that McGrady would be traded out of Jurassic Park. (My other bets were good though. Right Cabbage????) Will: You are so right. On a slow day, a journalist can make a brisk breeze blowing over a trash can sound like a: "Downtown Municipal Structure Toppled by Torrential Gusting Winds, City Braces for More Damage" Cool Runnings
You're right Will. He has to be irritated with the questions. I think he could have answered them more professionally, but I think we all know that he does not want to leave Houston. He knows that the Rockets can't offer him a huge contract and I honestly believe he will take less money(not much) to stay here...his home away from home. You didn't really bet your 'Stang did you "pops"? ------------------ The lottery sucks! [This message has been edited by RocketsPimp (edited April 21, 2000).]
Auction Theory also says Mobley is Staying. For reasons why, see my arguments for not making him a restricted free agent in RF34s thread: 2 Cap Questions...any cap experts please answer. I'm getting tired of this Mobley speculation. Sorry for throwing my post around like this guys. [This message has been edited by heypartner (edited April 21, 2000).]
Unless I'm mistaken, we can match another teams offer up to about $3.8 million (108% of next season's average NBA salary). That's pretty good money. Who has the money to offer Mobley more than that? And if Cat wants (and deserves) more than that, all he would have to do is sign for one year and then the Rockets would have his Bird rights. All things considered, I'd be somewhat shocked if he wasn't a Rocket next year. Does anyone know whether or not Cat's decision will also involve starting? If it does, I say that we go ahead and start Francis, Mobley, and Anderson. Anderson is probably just as capable of guarding the other small forwards in the league as many of the guys who are bigger than he is. Height is not everything. I'd rather have Anderson guarding someone like Grant Hill than Walt (even though Walt and Hill are both 6'8"). ------------------
