So, who's the best candidate for the Mavs? Dallas is mainly a jump shooting team. They have no post play. Del Harris?
I always thought he got on the big job very quick with no coaching experience. I hope they do not hire JVG.
If they're smart they'd go after JVG to try to light a fire under these little girls they call Mavericks.
You mean dislike more...It actually is a shame but cuban put this team together, specifically getting Kidd...
I'm not sure if Cuban is that smart, or if JVG wants the job. Guess we'll see. He's an obvious candidate.
JVG would be great in Dallas I think -- you need to take offensive players and get them to focus on defense. I like the fit... However, JVG and Cuban had that tit-for-tat about the officials in the 04-05 first round series, and I remember Cuban taking a subtle jab at JVG this past offseason -- if I remember right, he said something like coaching is a big part of winning and the Rockets improved just because of their coaching change. It was praise of Adelman, but seemed to be a shot at JVG too.
Avery Johnson is permanently on the bad end of the Chucky Brown karma, so I can't say I am surprised by this. HOWEVER. I really swooned duing his post game interview after the Mavs lost the finals to Miami. I had been rooting against them the whole time, and I think it was Jim Gray who asked the questions, I can not remember. But Avery was the last interview of the night, and the last question was something like "what did you talk about in the locker room after losing the series?" Avery said something in his inimitable voice, that was to me shocking. It was something like :"Mostly I talked about love. How much I love them, and how much love there is in that room." THAT was freaking awesome; totally sincere, totally genuine, totally out of left field and it totally nailed me. It transcended the game and even, to me, the outcome of the series. My wife ans I were momentarily stunned, Tivo-replayed it a few times, and realized we had been rooting for the wrong team. Too bad he crossed Chucky in San Antonio, they'd have won that year. PS. I think JVG would be a perfect fit in Dallas.
Apparently not enough love (as linked from the closed thread): http://www.dallasbasketball.com/fullColumn.php?id=424
This coaching change was first mentioned last night on the Mavericks post-game radio show so it came as no surprise. After all Cuban can't fire himself and he's far more responsible for what's gone down than was Avery. The early speculation is that it will be Westphal taking over with Del Harris coming back to the bench. Mario Ellie's name will pop up but he doesn't really have a chance as does JVG. JVG wouldn't put up with players like Dampier or Howard and the Mavs are stuck with these two for the time being. LOL - looks like Jason Kidd has gotten another coach fired....
