http://www.commercialappeal.com/news/2009/jun/27/griz-clippers-swap-fails/ Sterling saves a team from damnation: except the team he saved was the Grizzlies. Grizz was ready to trade Darko and Buckner for Zach Randolph, and Sterling nixed the deal. Memphis fans should thank Sterling. This was the nicest thing any NBA owner, including Michael Heisley, has done for Memphis fans in years.
i can't decide who's the greater idiot, the grizz gm for wanting this deal or the clippers gm for rejecting this deal. the clippers - you have just drafted a promising big man who needs playing time to develop, and you reject an offer to dump randolph who will stunt his growth. darko's an expiring, the clippers would have also saved money on this deal! the grizzlies - you have a young core and cap space to potentially attract a veteran free agent, and you want to jeopardize that by bringing in zach randolph? you already have scorers (oj mayo is a chucker, albeit a talented one), why add a black hole in the post who will take away shots from your young players. ugh, why are both teams in the league?
Chris Wallace is the biggest idiot in the NBA - all I had to do was see him interviewed on Thursday when he said he liked his team's "young nucu-lus" to know this. Going from West to Wallace is penthouse-outhouse.
oh and reading the part of the article regarding the offers for the #2 pick, they were laughable. kendrick perkins? several teams were also requesting gay along with the pick, which is ridiculous. i know the grizzlies gm is idiotic, but he can't be that idiotic.
I had read this earlier and decided not to post it assuming, because it was so absolutely ridiculous, that it possibly couldn't be true. this is one of those scenarios in life that is so preposterous from every angle and so literally mind boggling that you can't do anything but just stop and appreciate it for all its worth. the fact that wallace actually wanted to trade for randolph as the target in a deal and that there was another breathing entity (sterling) that actually stepped in for the purpose of keeping him....that just can't be scripted, my friends. if there was an onion.com/nba, even they would deem this too far-fetched.
This is what you would expect from the two sorriest franchises in the NBA. A proposed trade that was so one-sided it boggles the mind how moronic one of the teams could be, but the team that would benefit turns it down. Utter stupidity is trumped by even more stupidity.
Amen. And this actually pisses me off because I (and a lot of others, I imagine) am rooting for Griffin to have a productive career and avoid the Clipper curse. But when their owner does r****ded, grade school level bullsh-t like this... I mean, what chance does Blake have? I'm starting to believe he really is screwed.
At least the Clippers are in Los Angeles. The Grizzlies are in Memphis. Even if he's stuck on a bad team, Griffin will have a lot options off the court. If I was an NBA player, I could suffer the Clippers for a few seasons.
I will get flamed, but i actually like Zach. I think with the right coach, he'd be a much better player and not such a head case. Look what Rick did with Ron-Ron. Without his horrendous contract, I'd consider him. But...we already have THE MAN in Luis Scola
