To all the Bush lovers who were disappointed in not getting him. I'd like to point out that Davis will prove to be a better RB in the long run than Bush. Bush came out of a great system and his performance is due to being part of that system. He won't have anything resembling that at the NFL level. Bush reminds me of many of those overhyped Duke players who looked great and won all those NCAA awards but prove to be disappointing. I'm not saying Bush is the equivalent of Danny Ferry or Laetner but still I believe he is overhyped. Based on past performance, size, experience, and potential I'll take my chances with Davis. The fact of the matter is that Texans already have one of top RBs in all of football already! If Bush were here, then you're throwing away Davis, a RB which might actually be better than Bush himself!
First of all it won't be fair to compare two players because one is a second overall pick and the other was a 4th rounder.Even though i am happy with us picking Mario, Davis is not better than Bush. Bush can run, catch, and break tackles better than Davis. I think at RB position both Davis and Bush are equal, but overall Bush is better.
You haven't even seen Bush play in the NFL. I am pretty sure that Bush will not be injured as much as Davis in his career.
Ok, let's not get crazy...Bush is more ELUSIVE than Davis. There's no way he breaks more tackles than Davis. Bush makes guys miss, whereas DD will just flat out run through you. As far as the original point of this thread, until DD becomes less injury prone there really isn't an arguement that can be made. Not to mention that DD is more of a power back and Bush is more of a finesse runner.
Now thinking Mario was the better pick is one thing. But not giving Reggie Bush his props is just crazy and dumb! I played the game and let me tell you Reggies skills are legit and bonafide. He can do it all ala Marshall Faulk. Dude dont be stupid. I love DD he is an under dog who has proven he can carry the load. However Reggie will prove to be the better running back between the two. Some people just have it. Now if you want to talk overrated talk about his Former teammate and QB M.Leinart. But overrated and Reggie bush should not even be in the same sentence....
lol, maybe you go check USC's record for the past 2 seasons. Davis is good, but Bush has the potential to be GREAT.
Oh, silly me. I thought USC's team of 50+ players and all those coaches won those games, not Reggie Bush by himself. I didn't realize we were playing 1 on 1 now.
Come on, this thread is ridiculous, even for the Texans-Mario Williams apologists. Reggie Bush will accomplish more in his rookie season than Dominick "Injury List" Davis has at any time in his career.
I'm coming to terms with taking Williams instead of Bush, but to say that Bush doesn't have as much upside as DD is just silly. Like DD, Bush is a cutback runner but unlike DD, Bush has amazing breakaway speed. If he gets into the secondary, it's over. You can't say that about DD.
This is rediculous. I guess Bush was also the most hyped High School recruit for his senior year because of his high schools system? Just like ANY player in the draft, it could turn out that Reggie becomes a huge bust, but the logic is flawed in this argument.
The comparison to Duke hoops players is irrelevent in this case, because of sheer athletic ability. Those Duke guys fit in their system well, but Ferry,Laetner, Hurley, Langdon, etc. were never athletically gifted. Bush would have been a star at any other Div 1 school and his athletic abilty is what people are crazy about, not his team's performance during his time there.
Davis has rushed for 1,188 yards and 13 TD in a season before. I'll make a bet with you - signature or otherwise - that Bush doesn't break either of those numbers as a rookie. Let me know, and it's on.
Hopefully with the new zone blocking scheme, restructured OL, and the draft picks, DD has a better chance of not getting injured this upcoming season.
As a rookie it's unpredictable how much playing time he gets. I will wager he gets more yards per carry. I will also wager he gets more total yards than Dominack Davis by year 2. Bush is an explosive game breaker who can be utilized as a RB or as a WR. Bush will be 10 x the player Domanick Davis is or ever hope to be. I will also wager, Bush will have a better NFL career than any player on the Texans roster incluing Mario Williams in terms of production and impact. You have completely gone off the deep end on Mario Williams. Everyone in the world has seen Reggie Bush. No one has seen Mario Williams dominate for more than 1/2 a season... except those at the combine
I think anyone in the world would wager that. No one's questioning Bush's big-play potential. What they question is how soon, and if, he can develop into a 25 carry per game back, and that's what you need to carry for 1200+ yards. I'm sure Bush will be among the league leaders in YPC every year... no one's debating that. The debate is whether he'll do it consistently enough to be No. 1 pick valuable. At least as a rookie, the answer is no, in my opinion of course. I'd take that bet, except there's no way to measure it. Everyone in the world has seen Reggie Bush... at the college level. It's an entirely different game. You have completely gone off the deep end regarding college results and underestimating the transition each individual players' talent has to make from the NCAA to the NFL.
You need to check the stats before posting stuff like that. I don't think a single NFL back averaged 25 carries per game last year. Meanwhile, Warrick Dunn got 1400+ yards on 17.5 carries per game.
Clearly at least six teams thought otherwise, so "almost every" is a stretch. Also, almost every NFL scout believed Tim Couch, Courtney Brown, Ki-jana Carter and a few others were the best prospects in their drafts... scouts are wrong all the time. Clearly Bush is one of the elite talents in this draft... I trust the scouts to determine that. But between those elite talents (Bush, Mario, Vince, D'Brick, Leinart, Hawk, etc.) it's next to impossible to know for certain at this point how they will rank out over the long haul.
They might not have averaged 25 carries per game, but the elite NFL backs could all rush 25+ times when needed to and were all as effective in the fourth quarter as they were in the first. Do I think Bush can do that in time? Absolutely. In fact, earlier this offseason I was on the side of the Bush supporters in this argument. All I'm saying now is that it is a question and something he has to prove. It's not that I doubt Bush... all I'm trying to say is that he's not a guaranteed Barry Sanders before he's even played a down in the league like some of you seem to believe. There are questions with Bush, just like there are with Mario and everyone else. As for Dunn, if that doesn't scream career year I'm not sure what to tell you. If Bush averages 17 carries per game, he might have a couple of years like that, but I wouldn't expect it on a regular basis. And especially not in his rookie year, which we were discussing. Also, would you even use a top 5 pick - much less a No. 1 pick - if you knew Bush's production for his career would be roughly equivalent to that of Warrick Dunn? I sure wouldn't.
