One of our dogs passed away recently and I interested in adopting or purchasing a Vizsla. Anyone know of any good breeders in Texas that don't charge $1000 dollars for Vizslas. I have know nothing about what to look for in a breeder. Any recommendations would be great.
One of my fraternity brothers just bought a vizsla puppy from a reputable breeder for $600 which he said was a solid $1500 less than other breeders. He said the interview process was surprisingly tough but his dog is awesome.
Cool dog, looks just like a lab. Was gonna ask why this breed, and looked the similarities/differences up. http://dog-breeds.findthebest.com/compare/95-156/Labrador-Retriever-vs-Vizsla +3 years life expectancy is reason enough
Vizsla are more like weimers than labs. They are little bit smaller than a weimer and much smaller than a lab. They were bred to be bird dogs and are very energetic.
I recommend adopting a dog from a shelter, you dog racists. But seriously. Why pay more for an inbred mess?
I understand people really gravitate to one breed, but with thousands of dogs at risk of being euthanized while awaiting adoption all over the country, I hope you give serious consideration to rescue/adoption rather than breeders. I've included a link for Vizla rescue in Texas. Hopefully, you'll consider it... http://www.vizslaclub.com/Library_club/Rescue/Rescue_main.html
Strongly agree - unless someone needs a working dog or show dog, there are plenty of mixed breeds available to fit any lifestyle and preferences. Furthermore, purebreds are more likely to suffer from congenital health issues due to inbreeding - it's the inevitable result of trying to breed for very specific characteristics (breeding for appearance is especially problematic). I realize selecting a dog is a personal choice, but please be aware that there are serious issues that accompany the support of the purebred industry.
as others have voiced, and I really dont intend to annoy you about it but have to get it off out of good conscience you should look around a bit longer for your breed at and adoption center. Its understandable since your dog just passed but it pains me so much to see so many loving dogs out there without a home. Hope you reconsider but good luck in finding a nice dog!
Had a Vizsla growing up and no dog will ever compare in my eyes. Hope you find one. I fully intend to get another one some day.
My secret time waster shame is browsing the pets section on craigslist & on petfinder.org. I highly recommend http://www.petfinder.org to help find your next dog! you can type in your zip code, preferred dog gender & breed and even a bunch more search criteria. You don't have to rush into replacing your dog. Petfinder is great because it's not breeders or some random guy trying to make a buck off of flipping or selling sick puppies (craigslist). Petfinder allows shelters, animal control services, and rescue groups to make profiles for pets that are adoptable. What you'll find on there are dogs that are about to be euthanized if not adopted or dogs that are in foster homes & rescue groups that were rescued off the streets or from kill shelters. Adoption fees are rarely more than $125 & they usually come neutered/fixed and microchipped. A search I did showed there are a few vizsla mixes in the Houston area. I get you wanting another vizlsla. My dog is aging and when she passes, I know I'll want one similar to her since I love everything about her. She's a terrier mutt mixed with breeds unbeknownst to me, so I'm always on the lookout on petfinder to see if I could ever find a dog that looks like her or if those searches could help me figure out what breeds she is. You may find yourself falling in love with dogs on there that are nothing like what you thought you were looking for- happens to me all of the time, and I would adopt them all if I had the resources! Another thing I did with petfinder is went and "liked" all of the nearby rescue groups and shelters I found's facebook pages. Then you see recently added photos & bios of dogs in your facebook newsfeed usually before their profiles are listed on petfinder.
I'm with you guys on adopting. There are soooo many dogs out there that need a home. I'm constantly seeing strays in my neighborhood and they look so pitful. It truly breaks my heart. There are vizslas out there that need a home...just take a look around! Good start here. http://www.petfestoldtownspring.com/rescue_groups.htm
