Anyone have any experience or recommendations for locations to have your dog taken care of for a couple of days? I'll need my too dogs, both under 50 pounds watched Friday night through Sunday afternoon. (beagle, and her 5 year old pup which is mixed)

I noticed there is a lot of people who offer to watch dogs in their households from http://www.rover.com/tx-houston-dog-boarding/

Not sure to go that route, or if anyone knows of a good kennel.

You shouldn't water board your dog just because it won't stop eating the furniture.

ABC Kennels is where we've been taking our past two or three family dogs.

One of my dogs dreaded going to the kennel. Once we started taking her there, she didn't hate it quite as much as the other places.

I'll be around Galleria friday, but for the most part north west @ I10-Beltway.

I'll be in town during the weekend, but I won't be able to watch them. I'm actually driving down from Nacogdoches. I felt better about leaving them at a place in Houston rather than up here.

My friends used one up here a couple of months ago, and they de-clawed his cat with out permission.

We take our pups to Dogtopia (Used to be Happy Tails) off of Waugh for groomings but will also be boarding two of them there for a week in June when we take our trip to the BVI. It's an awesome place, the management and staff are great and they seriously take care of every dog. It's also very, very clean compared to most others.

    Dogtopia.

I suggest you go visit. Seriously.

When we were looking for places to board our dogs we went and looked at a few and discovered that while many look nice on the front face, the boarding conditions are horrible. I mean horrible. Dogs in kennels covered in feces that looked like they hadn't been cleaned in months, urine all over the floor everywhere, small dogs locked in rooms with no ventilation or overhead lights, etc.

That may or may not matter to you (I hope it does, but I know some dog owners see their dogs as nothing more than toy) but if it does, I really suggest you tour some. Especially if you have a dog that is a senior or has any medical issues. Many of these places flat out lie about having people trained to administer medicine and about what hours they have people at the facility to monitor.

I think this is the place we went to that had the cleanest conditions for boarding and they have a full staff of doctors actually on site. Their pricing isn't ridiculous either, but they do have limited space available so sometimes it's hard to get a spot.

Some of the places that are more expensive are actually really nasty.

When we lived in The Heights we took our dogs to Molly's Mutthouse. Boarded them there several times and I always felt like they were well taken care of.

Completely agree with you on this 100%!! We visited a few places and the conditions were awful so we settled on HDR for our boarding needs. We no longer board Bo because i hate the idea of him being cooped up in his room alone 24/7 even though there's a dog run. the playtime would be between 20-40 minutes per day. Doggy day care usually was unavailable since there were so many dogs. Those places that we visited had available doggy care while boarding but did not like the conditions. So we have someone to watch him when we are gone...that way, he will have human companionship 24/7. Will go back to HDR if we need to board him again, though.

We visited there (when named Happy Tails) and it really reeked so bad. They didn't have an outdoor yard for dogs to poop/pee so they had fake grass in the dog's boarding room. I wasn't down with that. Looks that they moved to a new place because the place seems different in the photos.

Yup, it is a new building but they board them off site in a very nice "hotel" for dogs. 24 hour care, both of my pups stay together in a dog house, not a kennel, lots of playtime with other dogs under supervision, we take their own toys and beds and put them in their doggy crib, etc. Trust me, I would never let someone take care of my beloved pups if I had not reviewed and witnessed the conditions they would be staying in. It's not the cheapest place but it's well worth the money and peace of mind.

Plus we get puppy cam so we can watch them while on the beach! :)

Having a friend or family member who can watch the dog is the best solution.

Oh, not implying that it is an awful place. I was just not impressed with them when we visited about 2 years ago. I'm sure that they improved a ton by then and I'm glad to hear that!!

As long, they're responsible! Lol. I would never leave Bo with someone who was irresponsible. I prefer to leave him with someone who had dogs in the past or currently have dogs.
