I was tested when I was hired, and would be before certain assignments. Also subject to random testing, but I've never been tested randomly, and I've never heard of anyone else getting tested randomly.
That may be how he made it up the ladder by getting that extra edge. If employees were coked up all the time production would go up by 50%.
Abuser? Yes. Loser? No. The man I know who does it is probably the hardest worker I've ever met. Regularly works 100 hours per week and he runs one of the biggest equity-prop desks in NYC. Some people do whatever it takes to get to the top.
