I wasn't sure if it was just an idiosyncratic company culture thing, or part of a wider movement, but this article says it's bigger than my little world: http://online.wsj.com/articles/SB10001424052702304101504579541783508605954. The bigshots at my company will wear colorful, patterned, and generally undignified socks with their slacks and dress shoes. Maybe wannabes lower down on the totem pole also wear dumb-looking socks like they do with cufflinks; I don't know because I don't bother looking at their feet. Am I the only one, or do other people see this? Specifically with the executives.
I see it all the time at my office, and usually I can't help but to shake my head. Most higher ups seem to have that extra sense of power and feel they can do whatever they want. Either that, or they just don't care. I'm probably going to go with the latter.
I'm not a fan of it(cos I'm a boring oldie) but I see a lot of people going colorful socks. Seems like it happened over the last 3 or 4 years where more and more people began going with colorful patterned socks. A bunch of TV personalities as well.
why is it wrong to wear pinstriped socks? and how are you going to hold your french cuffs in place without cuff links? during warm weather, I like wearing chinos other than khakis or brown. I'll even wear Nantucket red and madras, there I said it. I never thought anyone would notice my socks though since I always get pants that fit me properly length wise. maybe i should start crossing my legs more. we should stop judging people on their socks and focus more on their pocket squares.
they are even wearing a higher cut (popularly referred to as the "highwater") in order to show them off. middle school never ends. it just get's old.
I am wearing Space Invaders socks right now. I also have pairs with dinosaurs, killer whales, penguins, pigs and a bunch of others. I have built a little collection over the years and get them as gifts from friends and family sometimes. They aren't too colorful and usually match my pants. I just hated buying the boring ones. I am pretty low level and work with nerds with a relaxed dress code. I wouldn't wear them to an interview or to something formal but I don't see what the big deal is. Don't take your socks so seriously.
There are no "big heads" or bosses where I work, but the ones I've seen, including the president of this place, don't wear what you or the WSJ article say. Nope. I am nowhere near the top of the ORG chart but I wear argyle and solid colored socks. Rarely do I wear something that doesn't match my business/casual outfit. Today I'm wearing white dress socks.
I'm an executive at my company and I wear crazy socks. I don't high water my pants to show them off, and I often wear boots so nobody would notice anyway, but I wear them none the less. Why not? I have fun with it. Wife gets a kick out them, they amuse me.
I wear mostly Stance socks and a few others in that style. I do it because I like it, never knew that it was supposedly exclusive to execs and wannabe's. The execs at my office don't wear them as far as I know, and that includes the CEO and two VP's. I get compliments all the time from female coworkers, one asked where she could go to get her husband some.
I see youngins wearing funky socks too. A few dudes think it's GQ up in this B. LOL. I think RG 3 kinda had something to do with stepping up the sock game. I wear all black or dark brown socks strictly.
I've been meaning to order a pair for the longest. If I could also find a decent pair of Dream's Spaldings in white and black I'd rock the hell outta them with those socks. I may just settle for a pair of Etonics though.
I wear socks I would call stylish, not "crazy". Whether you wear stylish socks or not - nobody should care.
