A lot has been mentioned about the impact of the delayed #18 pick from Orlando to Houston. Since Vancouver/Memphis owes the Pistons a protected 1st rounder next year, does anyone know if that pick has to be the Grizzlies' own or can it be conveyed? (Juan Valdez where are you?)

Detroit gets Vancouver's pick unless it's in the top 5.

It has to be Vancouver's pick from here on out. Vancouver could have gotten any pick in the top 18 and sent it to Detroit before June 1st of this season. Since that day has passed, Vancouver must give Detroit it's very own pick unless it is in the top 5 next year. If it is top 5 then Detroit gets Vancouver's own pick the next season unless it is 1 overall.

Additionally, the worst Detroit can still get is the 18th pick. If the pick is lower than that (by some miracle the Grizz became good), Detroit does not have to accept the pick.

In closing, vancouver agreed to a very bad trade for a very bad player and proceeded to deal with the situation in a very poor way.

Who was the player ? This mess may have cost us the #6 pick in the draft.

Otis Thorpe, right when his skills went off the deep end to match his personality.

They traded the pick for him straight up, giving Detroit cap room (Detroit signed Brian Williams/Bison Dele with the room--not a terribly good use of cap room...) and using up their's on Otis because they assumed no one would sign with them.

What kind of personality problem did he have?
I've heard that when he was in the hospital because of a foot injury (during his days as a Rocket), not a single Rocket went to visit him. I didn't know if it was "him" or was it the other Rockets. I have brought up this question many times in the past year, but no one seem to know the answer (or maybe no one cared to reply).

    I don't know for 100% sure, but here's what I understand.

He tends to complain a lot about not getting enough touches on offense and sulk because of it. In Detroit, he pretty much gave up on the team entirely the season before he was traded. Not doing anything at all when he was put on the court out of spite.

That seemed to be his routine at several stops. A very good player to have for a couple seasons, then a tantrum followed by a sulk and he's shipped out.

His skills finally eroded to where teams won't even put up with a hint of a problem from him anymore (as shown by him getting shipped everywhere possible after his stint in Detroit).
