Intifada, which is the Arabic word for uprising. Yeah, if I saw it on the street, I'd be a little uncomfortable. I hope it doesn't catch on.

Intifada was a palestinian uprising against Israel

myself, I'd feel a little discomfort considering that the shirt kind of hints at support of an intifada in NYC. Not that i think it would happen, but if someone is feeling that way, who knows what they could do if they get really ticked off.

    No, not really.

Out of curiosity, would the people who would be uncomfortable seeing someone wearing that shirt be 'less' threatened and/or not be so uncomfortable if the person wearing the tshirt was caucasian?

considering that Al-Qaeda just made a new threatening video with a caucasian spewing the hate, yes I would be uncomfrotable.

Actually it would be great if all radical elements of any group had to wear a shirt to identify themselves.

Truthfully, I don't think someone who is really planning something would wear a shirt like that to help identify themselves.

I wonder what would happen to me if I wore that at the airport.

I guess it would all depend on whether it's made from a breathable fabric or not.

Bah, in a few years you'll see kids trying to shock mom and dad and tick off school officials by wearing an al-Q shirt.

Most of the people wearing this Intifada shirt probably have no clue of the associations the word carries... they probably think, "uprising huh... man that's cool."

It's just a t-shirt... in America... you know, that country with freedom of speech?

I find that statement a bit..saddening in some sense. The very notion of having to think twice/or be afraid of wearing a particular tshirt just seems..out of place in this country, given tis values and history. If that really is true, it would be as if we've lost an important part of what it is that defines us. A bit of our soul. Ehh.

I don't mean to crap on you but your post seems to ignore the events of the past 6 years.

find me a comparable example in the history of the U.S. that compares to the terrorism which plagues us today and then i'll leave you alone.

 Your are saying our current plague of terrorism is the most what the US has ever seen? Most dangerous? Most hurtful? I don't understand. I'm hard-pressed to think of something it could be the most of.

I'm just telling napalm that you have to be sensitive to the events of the last 6 years.

If someone wants to wear that shirt to the airport, they're within their right to do it, it's also within the airport's right to detain you and make sure you're not a fanatic. free speech carries consequences with it, if you're not prepared to face those consequences, then maybe you're not cut out to handle free speech.

    Yep yep !

If you are prepared to stand up in an airport and say " I hate the USA " then you deserve what you get......

When I was in high school, I went to Vinyl Edge and bought a shirt that said "VIVA SANDINISTA!!" on it. I had no idea what it meant but it sure did look cool. I remember the guy who rang me up laughing at me under his breath.

Ah, to be a dumb high school kid again...
