Does this mean that I am not an NBA fan?

Okay, I was looking at the Rockets schedule this year (here), and noticed a team called the "Knickerbockers". At first, I burst out laughing and was like "WTF, who is this!?", then I realized it was the Knicks and was their actual name. I thought the website was making fun of them at first. Learn something new everyday.

Yup. And "Jazz" is short for "Jazzercisers."

I was amazed when I found that out, and I had been following the NBA for years. I heard it the first time at the Summit, where I think they were doing it in a derogatory manner.

I'm wondering what the Sonics will be renamed when they move to OKC.

    you think that is funny.

Do you realize San Antonio fans are rooting for a team named after a boot accessory? I'm so embarrassed for them. It's like rooting for the Amarillo Cufflinks or sumpin.

I remember I only found out a couple of years ago where 'Lakers' originated.

Likewise, the Lakers. In fact, I'm not sure what a Laker is. There may have been lakes in Minnesota, where the team took root, but it's a surprise they didn't decide to change the name after moving to a state next to the ocean.

I can't help but to laugh out loud when I think about the name.

Don't care for much outside of the Western Conference and the Rockets are my team, so I follow them the most.

Did you know that the Reds were a shortened form of Redstockings? If not you aren't a baseball fan either.

    JK~

I am sure you aren't alone in not knowing where the name came from.

And New Orleans should take the Jazz name back. Utah should be Mormons or something.

And Minnesota should take back the Lakers name. Los Angeles Implants?

Back in the 70s when I first started watching the NBA, the term Knickerbockers was used more often.
