Based on Dawson's comment that Yao and McGrady is "Batman and Robin" (recent Chronicles article), is it safe to say that the Rockets management team believe that Yao is the franchise player, and TMac is like Kobe in LA for the last 8 years? If that's the case, will TMac feel pissed and have issues with Yao?

Tracy knew what he was getting into when he asked for a trade to Houston. It's Clear Yao is the franchise and will be for many years to come.

its hard to be pi$$ed when you demanded the trade that put you in that situation

I think history will prove that steve and kobe were wrong to not adjust to the big men that came in they did and the T-mac/Drexler model of check egos and WANTING to play with the big fellas will pay off

Yao Ming has been here since a rookie and is the best center in the West. Gotta go with younger age and size.

I beg to differ: Steve tried but his games ask that he dominates the ball. To put it simple, Yao and Steve's games are not compatible to each other.

When the ball is in the post, Yao is franchise. When it's in the backcourt, T-Mac is franchise. It's all good.

How about we retire the word "franchise" when referring to our TEAM?

Yeah, it's not quite like in '94 when we had Hakeem and 4 other guys on the court.

Yao still hasn't even proven to be a dominating force yet. He still hasn't shown that he can consistently deliver night-in'night-out either. He still hasn't shown the stamina to bring his A game all the way through the 4th quarter.

Yao's gonna demand a LOT of attention on offense. But T-Mac's the reigning scoring champion. It's a pick-your-poison type of situation. The defense will commit to stopping one and that'll leave room for the other. If the defense commits to stopping both, our role players should have a field day. That's what team sports is all about.

Yao is the focus of the offense. Its because of him that Tracy wanted to come. Yao is the franchise. I remember it being reported after Yao's rookie year that he and Carrol had a lunch get together. During this time, he explained the coaching situation (they were going to hire Van Gundy) and he asked for Yaos opinion of certain players on the team. I think that mindset is key for the type of team they are building. They went into the process knowing that they needed to retool this team to enhance Yaos ability to work down low. They brought in Jhoward, CWard, Sura, they tried/trying to bring in Mutombo/Ostertag (its clear they have made strong efforts at both) and ofcourse the ultimate guy to pair with Yao not named Kobe. Tmac.

I think Dawson's remark was ill-advised except that Ming and TMac should be referred to as the "Dynamic Duo." Ming is going to have to raise his game several notches over last year to keep up (or catch up), because TMac is going to AMAZE. Most of you are not ready for what a fired up, revitalized, and healthy TMac is going to show you. Hang on to your seats. You are are going to wonder why you ever thought Francis was the "Franchise," and doubt that Kobe is the best! With Ming in the middle and surrounded by basketball intelligence, TMac will be unstopable.

This could be a case where a team has two franchise players instead of one, like most other teams. I prefer to treat it like that instead of trying to place one above the other --- because with that argument you can go back and forth all day.

Who was the 'franchise' with Kareem and Magic? If a player makes that distinction, then it is an insight into their state of mind...ie, they are an egomaniac and not worried about winning. See Kobe.

Besides, what's McGrady got to be pissed about? He demaned the trade.

I'm sure CD was just thinking that they will be paired together as a duo rather than one is subserviant to another.
