They say time is the best healer of all, but two seasons after the trade I still just can't forget about it and what detrimental effects it may have had on our team. Its always hiding at the back of my head reminding me of the scars it has caused me.

I won't describe why it was a bad/crazy/boneheaded trade(or good in some people's opinion,) as the debate has probably gone on alot and the good/bad arguments are obvious and argued.

So I'm wanting to know whether the rest of the board still hold certain emotions towards this trade?

For me it was a totally "r****ded" trade from the very beginning. Rockets have lacked that athletism and scoring power for a loooonnng time outside of T-Mac on the wing/perimetre, and we get a draft steal at no.8 in Rudy Gay that fits our needs perfectly!...........and we trade it away for a lesser player...i.e. a star for a role player...............

    leaves me wonder...what if...

Not against Battier in any way...but comparisons has to be made

Yes it still makes me mad that the Blazers slipped in front of us to draft Brandon Roy. Can you imagine Roy/T-Mac/Yao/Scola together?

    Gay?

Meh. I could care less about that guy on the team. I missed him at the All-Star game btw, I didn't see Byron Scott give him any minutes.

Rudy Gay was an allstar? Wow he must not have play at all rofl.

And Brandon Roy...the thought that we could have had him is the thing that bothers me. He is my favorite player right now and i think hes going to become a very scary player next season

Rudy Gay wasn't an All Star.

I'm pretty sure he was being sarcastic. My feelings about the trade: at first I thought it was incredibly dumb, but I bought into the fact that Battier could contribute right away, and that we are in a "win now," mode.

2 years later we're no better off, and Battier disappears in the post-season. Maybe that isn't fair, he was never made out to be a scorer, but he is just totally invisible on offense in the playoffs.

Now, I think I'm going back to my gut instinct: it was a bad, bad move. Gay sucks on defense, but I think we could have picked up a solid defender somewhere else (maybe not on Battier's level, but someone serviceable), and have had Gay on offense.

I think it's time to ship Battier out.

I remember draft night vividly. I thought, finally, the Rockets got lucky and actually drafted a player with significant potential, somebody that was ranked no. 1 in several pre draft polls. I went to bed happy and excited. During the night, I felt uneasy. This is the Rockets I worried, they have screwed up almost every draft, trade, and contract during the last ten years. Next morning, yep, they did it again.

Please for the LOVE OF GOD !!!!

We were NOT DRAFTING RUDY GAY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Rockets would have taken Thebo Sefalosha.....they did not want Gay.

You can argue they should have wanted to take Rudy, or that they had made the wrong choice but if they were not interested in the guy and thought Battier could help them win now...then I can not fault the logic.

Ugh, I feel a V-Span thread coming on....

    ;)

Which really makes it worse! They could have had Gay. They didn't even see value in him! And who is Thebo Sefalsosha? Now that sounds like a Rockets draft. Probably a Croatian refugee who is 6' 11", 190 and played PG in some Brazilian B league. Yep, now that is a Rocket's draft. Air Thebo, oh yeah.

Dude I don't watch much College ball and back then i had never heard of Rudy Gay lol.

So me and my friend are walking home from hooping and we start talking about the rockets and the draft, this was the season Tracy had his back problems i think and we fell to the bottom  . Anyways hes like so who did they draft? And I'm like some dude named Rudy Gay thinking he probably sucks and stuff. His first response was "HOLY ****!" "The rockets drafted Rudy Gay?!?!" And I was like yea....who is he? He explained to me that Rudy Gay was like the "T-MAC of college b-ball," so i was excited cuz T-MAC was hella' good that season, and just like you said i was very disappointed when i learned that they had traded him.

dont forget this draft decision was coming out of the stromile swift experiment season. they just got their hands on a coveted athletic but underachieving player, and he failed miserably. rudy gay had all the same earmarks. he underachieved at uconn, people questioned his desire, his toughness, his mental fortitude, and whether he cared.

i have said it from the beginning and I will say it again now, IF the rockets had drafted rudy gay and kept him, they would not have gotten rid of swift's horrible contract, and they could have very easily had two super athletic, lazy boneheads on the team. how stupid would they have looked then?

i hate the fact that rudy turned out well, because now everyone's going to start overrating these underachieving "potential" players again. watch someone draft DeAndre Jordan in the lottery and tell me I'm wrong.

Of all the stupid mistakes the Rockets have made since the Dream era ended, I'd put trading Rudy Gay at the top of the list.

It infuriates me to this day that the Rockets had Rudy Gay fall into their laps and traded him away for glue.

I still wonder what could've been if we had Gay, especially in this years playoffs without Yao. I'm not so much concerned about Brandon Roy, even though he would've been a nice player to have. You cant do anything about players drafted ahead of your spot.

if we are aiming for the championship, we need a defensive stopper because TMac needs to save his energy on offense. and Rudy Gay aint one of them (not even close).

For me it was more thn Rudy Gay. I was more on board with Ronnie Brewer cuz I thought gay might be gone. There were some that wanted Reddick. I just thought the Rox were in a rare position that few eams get to. They could fill a huge need with the bpa. Not only that, the young guy could get better and keep the window open. Gay is a really good player right now. His talent on this team would be scary. The coaching along with the veterans was perfect. It really was one of the worse trades the rox ever made.

It was a short sighted move,Battier has done his best but he can't do anything more.He has value to the team but the Rockets can't afford to let go another potential scorer with youth and athleticism. Rudy Gay still has room to improve and he is not another Gerald Green. We didn't get enough out for the 8th pick period regardless of how much help Battier provides to Tracy. Tracy will retire some day and if we don't have a future replacement for him soon, you will see the impact of not having a scoring SF/SG. It's already obvious that we need help for him and Battier right now.If management refuses or is unable to get help now or very shortly for the 3/2 spot we will be in big trouble in the upcoming season.
