Just so I'm clear, if we sign Mike James to the full MLE, does that mean that there is no way to sign Spannolis to the team? Wasn't he supposed to come over this year?

I dont think he was going to come over anyway. He wants to win a championship with Panthinkos or however you say it.

Who cares? If Span was any good, we'd find a way to bring him here.

Last I heard, CD said he thought he was ready to make the leap to the NBA. I have to believe he's in the rocket's plans for this season, whether the money works out or not I'm not sure.

Don't think he was gonna get brought over in the first place this offseason. No one from the Rox brass mentioned him. I don't think anyone would disagree that MJ is way better for the "win now" Rox than another project in VSpan.

As long as JVG is the coach I doubt you will ever see Vspan on the roster

This is all false information. V-Span doesn't want to come over because he wants to win the championship this year for Panathinaikos. They're supposed to get a very good NBA player, so they should win it all. After that, he'll come here. He said in an interview that with his extension in Greece, he'll keep playing until he wins it all there and then come down to HTown.

can we stop talking about v-span? seriously, if he was any good at all he'd be over here playing already. i seriously doubt him or badiane ever set foot in the nba, for ANY team.

    ONCE again!!
Spanoulis is not coming to the Rockets! He is only good to have his rights included in a trade package.
He is not coming to the Rockets as we won't pay what he is worth and he has a good job in Europe already.

    Panathinaikos wins title again
Basketball’s defending champ beats Olympiakos for 3-0 win in series and double triumph

    MARKOS CHOUZOURIS/ACTION IMAGES
Vassilis Spanoulis dunks during his team’s title-winning victory.

Defending champion Panathinaikos was crowned Greek basketball champion for the eighth time in nine seasons last night with an 82-70 victory over archrival Olympiakos for a 3-0 win in their best-of-five final series. The victory also handed Panathinaikos, a three-time European champion, its second successive league-and-cup double triumph.

Last night’s encounter, for which Panathinaikos fans packed their team’s OAKA arena in anticipation of victory and ensuing title celebrations, was interrupted for 15 minutes after the visiting team cleared the floor and made for the dressing rooms when objects were tossed onto the court.

Three Olympiakos players, Dimitris Kalaitzidis, Nikos Argyropoulos and Nikos Barlos, were apparently injured. The game’s referees threatened to empty Panathinaikos’s arena of its fans, but following lengthy negotiations all resumed as normal. It is likely that the club will be fined for the incidents.

Panathinaikos’s players, perhaps comforted by their team’s resounding 2-0 lead in the final series going into last night’s game, needed some time to take command. The defending champion did not truly find its way until the third quarter. Slovenian shooting guard Jaka Lakovic, the game’s top scorer, took charge with 18 points in just over 33 minutes of total playing time.

In the Greek basketball league’s remaining contest, Maroussi, coached by Panayiotis Yiannakis — who, in his other role as Greece coach, led the national team to the European title last summer — defeated visiting Aris 71-56 to take a 2-1 lead in their best-of-five series for third place in the standings and a Euroleague berth next season. The two teams meet again on Saturday.

As long as Van Dummy is coach, nobody under the age of 23 or any foreigner will ever see pt for the Rockets. I'd be shocked if Head is not traded for some scrub between the ages of 29 and 32 in the next 6 weeks.

I think Vspan is already getting more paid than what the Rox can offer him. Early reports indicated that Greece was offering him more money and if Rox are willing to pay him more than that then he would consider joining. And later reports mentioned that he wanted to win for his team before he joins the NBA. So either way it looks like he wont be joining the team anytime soon.

Not true. He's good enough to bring over, he's just not quite good enough to keep us from going after a guy like Mike James. We're not talking about a Badinae situation where he's done nothing to show he can play in the league. Span has played well in Europe and shown as much promise as a lot of European players that came over. It's just that he's priced himself out of a rookie minimum and we don't have the money to bring him over.

I thought I remember hearing the V-Span has a buy-out clause in his contract. Next season VSpan will be free and clear.

Why would you spend the MLE on VSpan for an unproven player if you can get Mike James who already knows JVG's system.

We are not certain if the James deal is a sign-and-trade or the MLE. If it is the former, I could see the Rox using part of the MLE to get him here, especially if Alston becomes trade bait.

LOL. nice find. Either way i highly doubt Rox will have any room for him considering we will already have rotation of James n Alston. Maybe we can play him at backup SG for Tmac and not sign Frahm and Wesley and we can have a rotation of Tmac/Span/Head.

I really think we should give him a chance if the price is right. Although, I wouldnt overpay him if he asks for more money. Also if he was that good many teams would be after him and offering him more money.
