Sarunas Jasikevicius wants to play in the NBA for the right price. Could he become a Rocket next season? http://www.haaretz.com/hasen/spages/585124.html
Um, okay, So does my grandma. Guaranteed $10 million deal. That's pretty steep. I'd love to have him, but we'd have to dig into MLE for that, and we might need that for other positions.
He's asking $10 MIL over 3 years, so that would only be $3.3 MIL against our MLE, right?? He sounds like a better bet than Vassilis Spanoulis. I only saw Sarunas in the Olympics and he killed Team USA.
Ya, 3M, 3.3M, 3.63M for total 9.93M or thereabouts. About what Sura and Mike James got as contracts. Where are his stats?
Here are his stats: http://www.safsal.co.il/player240.aspx To break it down: He scores about 15 pts per game At about 50% shooting 5 Assists per game and 3 turn overs and a little over 2 rebounds per game For anyone who cares Chad Ford seems to like him: (For any ESPN Insider) http://insider.espn.go.com/nba/columns/story?columnist=ford_chad&id=2055870
He certainly looked great in the olympics. Fearless! Great shooter! Would love for the Rockets to get this guy.
He is very good. He is the captain of the Lithuvania NT. Yao has very high regard of him. He actually played in China for one year, on you know who--Yao's Shanghai team. Yao was either not on the senior team then, or just made it. But he left right after the season saying the low level of playing was detrimental to his own game.
Well, it's not like I know zip about the guy other than what I read, but: (from NBADraft.net) "2. Sarunas Jasikevicius (Unrestricted) The biggest star in Europe, Jasikevicius has decided to make the transition to the NBA. He's not completely unfamiliar with the American style of play, having spent some time starring for the University of Maryland. After leading Maccabi Tel Aviv to two consecutive Euroleague titles, his stock has never been higher. Some say he's the best shooter in the world, and he's a tremendous leader on the floor. His hard work tends to rub off on his teammates. The downside is that he's already 29 years old and would be considered a below-average athlete by NBA standards. Some suggest he may have lost a step, and should have come over 2-3 years ago, although skillwise he continues to become better each year. There are also questions as to how Jasikevicius will adjust from being the Man in Europe to being a role player in the states. Expect to see over a half-dozen teams go after Jasikevicius, including the Pacers, Celtics, Blazers, Rockets, Heat, Cavs, Kings, and any other team who needs a consumate floor general who can hit an open three." So, it at least makes sense that the Rockets might be interested, and how can you go wrong with a guy who can even be MENTIONED as 'the best shooter in the world' ?? Plus, he's no kid, but he's only 29, so he still has a good amount of tread left on the tires. JVG would be more likely to take to a veteran Euro than a kid like Boki was. I would like to at least see what the guy can do.
Maybe at the 2, as a designated bomber, like Kyle Korver. He is an awesome shooter, off one foot, fading away, falling away, pullups, 3 bombs, mid-range. Sarunas-shooter. I would consider him one of the top 5 shooters in the world, if not the very best. He's right there with Ray Allen. Different style shooter than Allen, not as smooth, but he can flat out can it from anywhere on the court. But he's not a good distributor, which is what we really need to get the ball to Yao. I'd rather see him as a 2, maybe off the bench, or maybe as a starting 2, providing he could provide some sort of defensive effort...........which I don't think he is capable of. To me, he is a superstar on the offensive end, but couldn't make the injured reserve list on the defensive end. If he had any kind of defensive skills, and could distribute, he'd be a top 20 player in the NBA. Dell Curry???? World B. Free??? Pistol Pete?????? Designated shooter. I think he will make his mark in this league, because really the NBA is about shooting. And I think he's probably worth $10 million over 3 years. I just look at him like Steve Francis or Allen Iverson, great players, but really can you win a championship with them? I don't think Steve or AI will ever win it all, unless they adjust their game at the PG position and make getting their teammates involved the priority and become twice as efficient as they now are. The only other chance they have to win it all, is to play the 2 position on a team with a dominant big man and be willing to defer to the big man on a consistent basis and take whatever shots come to them. I think on our team, unfortunately, he's too slow footed on the defensive end, and he takes too many shots away from our big 2, to be an effective starter for us. Super scoring sub off the bench?? Definitely! But we still need to get a hard nosed, quick, strong, defender at the 1, who is willing to get the ball to the big 2 (Jack please). So, let's draft Jack, do a couple S&T's to get a defensive minded big 2 guard who can run and shoot (Pietrus, Bonzi), and a PF that has some athleticism, and can clean the glass(C. Andersen, Warrick, DMiles). Then sign this kid to part of the MLE and let him be the 6th man and come in to give TMac and our starting 2 guard a break and get his 20 minutes and 16 ppg by fighting with MJ and Juwon for shots on the 2nd team, if MJ is still here. Jack MJ Pietrus(Bonzi) Sarunas TMac Bowen Miles Miles Howard or Howard Miles Yao Deke Padgett somebody else
I kinda of see JVG and Dawson maybe drafting a senior like Alan Anderson from Michigan State. He is a SG/SF that is currently moving up the draft board big time after his Chicago camp showing. He is a defensive Doberman coming from a Tom Izzo coached team.
AAAARGH!!! Can't *SOMEBODY* tell Bill Worrell that it's pronounced 'PADGETT' and *NOT* 'pageant'.?!?!?!?!?! And Air Bull was no better - Yo Bull, it's 'No-Vitski' , not 'No-Witski' ... GRRRRRRRR
