he's shooting so poorly from the field..He was 1-12 today, I think he has had consecutive 10% FG games by now. he keep chucking them up too. I worry that he is slowing down the offense sometimes and hindering it. Opinions?

if you look closely at the game. most of his shots came from desperate attempts to beat the shot clock (not his fault most of the time). he only missed a wide open 3 pointer from Yao which hes supposed to make.

i think ron will be fine. his shooting % will go back up to 41-42% when the season is over.

i think he clearly has no role in the starting lineup in terms of offense. he needs touches and he lacks it in the starting lineup. he'll still finish games with tmac/yao, but i prefer him with the 2nd unit. artest, brooks, landry are a lethal 2nd unit.

however, what i am afraid of is his HORRIBLE ability to create his own shot on the perimeter and his ability to finish around the rim. i never thought he was this bad. i think it's easy to say he's not a go-to guy with 2 minutes left to go.

i'm not worried. Remember, he's the new guy. He probably came here thinking we'll play Adelman's Sacramento system and found out that we're far from it. While everyone else is used to playing with one another learning the system together, Ron just joined and is trying his best to adjust.

the thing with artest is can he be an effective effecient scorer, can he still score points with less touches, cause when he is out there with TMac and Yao, his shot attempts should go down.

He is a good defender. Even though he cannot make the shots, he still can help the team.

If you watch him out on the court, the problem is that he is thinking too much and not letting the game flow through him. He is always looking out for T-Mac or Yao when he is on the court with them. When he is on the floor with the second quad, he kind of seems to put to much pressure on himself to score or create for others. Hopefully once he plays more with the offense and picks up the flow of things, it will be okay.

Ron knows this system. If its the same offense in Sac, he should be ahead or at least on the same page as these guys. I think we should be a little worried. He doesn't look aggressive at all on offense. Settles for way too many jump shots. Tough ones at that. It's not like he can create for himself as good as T-Mac can.

Ron doesn't shoot high percentages either. Low 40% range. So if anybody is hoping for a sudden spike in his shots, don't hold your feces. Expect Ron to have more bad shooting nights than good. Thing is, he helps you tremendously on defense.

    Not worried at all.

I think one possible explanation is the 15-20 lbs of muscle he added since last season.

He will either burn off some of that extra weight during the course of the season or get adjusted to the bigger frame.

We all know he is a much better offensive player than this. His style ain't pretty but it's effective when he is on his game.

Everybody remembers how he almost single-handedly brought the Kings back from 20 pts down in the 4th quarter against us last season.

Not only is he much better than this but he's a clutch scorer. He's at his best when the game is on the line. The Rockets will benefit from that clutchness sooner or later.

I agree that you can't judge off today's performance since many of those attempts were with the clock winding down, and he did jack a lot late in the 4th.

But he is on the perimeter WAY too much. Adelman needs to put him inside, just like how he did with TMac in the 3rd.

    Not at all

The issue with Ron Artest is that he is trying to find his voice in this pre-made chorus. He's walking onto a team with some legit firepower to match his own, and he can't simply "impose his will" from the get go.

I believe once the stagnant post up iso offense is corrected into a more, flowing team, the team seen during W22, Artest will find his place and show us what he is made of offensively. As it stands, its just really cluttered out there right now and its one of the main reasons his shots are difficult and being forced.

No it doesn't scare me. It isn't that he is getting used to a new system, it is that he is getting used to playing with 2 other stars. His last good game was against Dallas, specifically when he played with the second unit. When Battier returns and is put into the starting line-up, the efficency of Artest and the team will improve greatly.

No. Ron will be fine. As long as he puts his energy in the defensive end, I don't worry about him. Right now I think he is trying too hard to defer to others. He is thinking too much and hesitant when making moves. He will be fine as our guys figure out how to play with each other and the offensive flow comes more naturally.
