I am looking at the colts as an example, 0-4 preseason and 5-0 regular season. Does it really matter at all?
I think only matters in seeing how your guys come together in a game situation. Win or lose, no. You aren't going through a normal rotation. It's not very representative of a regular season game.
We've already been through this with the Texans. I was a firm believer that it didn't. Now I believe it does. Just play well , please Jesus!
don't look at it as W's and L's. if the team looks like they are in shape and know what they are doing on offense then we are in for a great season. of course JVG looks at it as W's and L's. he had a quote from the other day, something like "the championship teams always seem to have a good preseason record."
AGREED...do not worry about winning or losing..but look for chemistry issues..esp with the new ppl..and of course check out the 2nd 3rd stringers..this is where they get the most minutes
Football is a little different because you have 80 guys that you have to give a look in a very short period of time and you don't get down to 60 until the 3rd game so training camps are basically competitions to evaluate and bring in new talent. JVG said the good teams play .500 ball or better in the preseason and I would think that he is going to aim for that to set expectations for the season. I think he will be trying to win these games and putting the starters back in when the games are close.
I don't think he'll go that far. He'll give the starters some decent minutes (25-30) and tinker with some lineups, but I don't think he'll really coach for the win. Remember last year when we ended a preseason game with Reece Gaines creating for the last shot. I'm embarrassed for him just thinking about it.
on rockets.com, JVG said how the preseason was very important...DA mentioned the significance of the preseason as well and actually wants MORE preseason games because it helps with chemistry and for finding a niche...
Also good for getting the deeper players more court time and experience... arguably part of chemistry, of course.
I say no, but its nice to know that the Rockets won. Its a practice but with another team, and refs, and crowd. Its the time to experiment with the players.
Preseason games are important. Winning preseason games aren't important. And plz don't use NFL preseason as an example. Very different animals.
