I'm going to the Steelers game next week and if the Texans stink up the joint I plan on booing. I'm not just talking about booing, but booing after every single 3 and out, every interception, fumble, bad run, and even an incomplete pass. I want Palmer gone at the bye week. Most likely Joe Pendry will be the one to replace him so I wouldn't expect much difference in the offense, but at least it will be a change. Capers and Casserly can follow Palmer out the door at the end of the year.
no. i don't think they're going to fire the coach after week 2. that doesn't mean i think he'll be back next year...but i doubt they'll do it that quickly.
While I would like Palmer gone, I think Capers is the bigger problem. He's had this conservative offense whereever he's coached. If we get a new offensive coordinator, most of this stuff will stay the same.
Yea, and that leaves us w/ crappy Wand and trash Chester Pitts on our offensive line. Great move, Casserly...
Alex Barron wouldve been worthless. The guy is so damn lazy. The radio stations in St. Louis were chiming about how much of a bum he is. I'd say go for Jamal Brown or at the very least Derrick Johnson on defense. Whatever Travis Johnson hasn't done anything to impress anyone. Nice job Charlie Casserly
We could definitely use a new offensive coordinator. Watching the Texans offense on Sunday was just plain horrible. After watching the Falcons and Eagles play last night, I was reminded of what a good football game looked like again. The game was so much smoother, and there weren't nearly as many stupid penalties...seemed like the Texans got one every other play on Sunday.
The entire staff should be pink slipped if we're under 0.500 again this year. Hopefully that includes Casserly as well. We need a real O-line, and a coordinaters that are willing to shape their schemes based on personnel at hand. Evan
All of this sounds so much similar to what this board was crying about last november. Fire JVG! Fire CD! You know, I would have expected all these die-hard fans that visit this site regularly to have gained some wisdom and patience over the course of the last year. It all stems back to last year's Astros team. 56-60 when they bottomed out. No one, myself included, believed in them. They made a move to shake things up. Then they took us on the greatest Astros playoff ride I myself have ever seen. Then the Rockets start out 6-11. Blame placed all over the place. No believers. Suddenly, we make a couple of moves and we ride the rest of the way with a 45-21 record, finishing with 51 wins for the first time in years. Then the Astros take us on another rollercoaster ride again this year, but this time without any personnel shakeups. My point is, it's the first week guys. Granted, we didn't look good, however, neither did the Rox or Stros early on. The Texans lost a lot of veterans this offseason and seems they are committing to more youth this year. Maybe the Bills will be one of the elite teams this season, no one knows. Just be patient, but most of all, just keep believing.
Does anyone remember when Palmer was head coach of the Browns? Wide open offense was his MO. Everywhere he has been has been wide open offense. What do you think changed when he came here? Maybe working for a conservative coach? So what do you think will change with another coordinator? Can we give it until week 5 or 6 before we make any judgements about this team? Can we have a game not against the 1st and 2nd ranked defenses in the league before saying we are under acheiving? I was not aware that anyone expected us to go undefeated this season. I expected them to go 9-7 or 10-6, so we got one of the losses out of the way, probably going to get the 2nd loss this week. Lastly, to go a game planning to boo your home team seems very "Philly-ish".
No, he won't be gone by the bye week... But I wish he would be. Along with Joe Pendry (offensive line coach) and Dom Capers... hell, throw Casserly in there, too.
JVG, Rudy, and even the astros brass have a history of some sort of success, esp with their current teams. Even when they were losing there was some hope that they could turn it around. Capers and Cassie had a little bit of success a long time ago with other franchises. They have shown very little to make anyone believe that they can make this team playoff material this year, next year, or 5 years from now.
I'm not sure that your argument makes your point. Looking at the other Houston franchises - both made major coaching changes in the last few years after their teams were not performing well, and both had a huge turnaround. After "firing" Rudy, the Rockets have become title contenders within 2 years. After firing Jimy Williams, the Astros became playoff contenders within a few months as well. It's not anything like the ridiculous "fire JVG" stuff we saw - that was after one year. This team has had several years now and seems to be going nowhere. It's more akin to the Rudy and Jimy Williams situations, I think.
Phil Garner managed the Detroit Tigers and Milwaukee Brewers before his tenure here. that = no success whatsoever. I don't even think any of his teams ever finished above .500. Didn't seem to stop us last year. And of course there's hope...it's freakin Week 1. We all want them to win now but even if they don't I'm just happy we have a team to represent us in the NFL.
This team has only been in existence for 3 (now 4) years. They went 7-9 last season, a two game improvement. What more do you want from a 3rd year team??? 12-4??? geez man, be realistic. My point was allow the players a little bit more time to show what they're capable of. When it becomes clearly apparent that this coaching staff is not maximizing the full capabilities of our squad, then make a coaching move.
McNair will not fire Palmer for losing against Pittsburgh. We should be a huge underdog. Now if the Titans and Jags start whooping up on us, that's a different story.
