There's been grumbling about this here and there in other threads especially in light of the draft and the Rashard Lewis pursuit...just wanna see where we stand!
He hid Aaron Brooks from everyone but telling everyone we have a deal provided it goes down is down right stupid. This attitude will keep on hurting us.
I for one am going to give Morey my vote to redeem himself . I hope he has the brains and experience to not make too many mistakes. Will hold my final judgement till the Roster is complete. ( I know this is going back on everything I said after the Draft but I now feel , he is the man and we as fans must give him a chance to shine or fall off the cliff!)
He says too much of the same crap over and over again. This is the NBA, not the US Government! I know the NBA has restrictions on talking about things till today, but we'll see if he does anything that works when the season begins.
'Another' finesse 4? As if Hayes is a finesse 4? The only true finesse 4 in the league is Chris Bosh and he's pretty darn good. Darko is more of a shotblocking mobile 5, but would still be an exponential upgrade over Hayes. And a much more realistic target than Lewis, who incidentally is a 3, not a 4 at all....
Even though not everyone is in agreement over Rashard. If the Rockets end up with Alan Henderson as their only major acquistion... this board is going to get lively So I'd say yes.
He is much more skilled than Hayes. He can score and block shots and definitely is more realistic in a sign and trade than Lewis. I have always mentioned Lewis as a 3 in my posts but a tall mobile 5/4 has to be able to rebound and defend consistently against the tough and quick 4's in the league which includes Bosh IMO.I don't think Darko can do that.
What would be the implication of Morey talking "too much"? I imagine most NBA insiders (people who work for teams) know who is talking to who so it's not much of a shock to the decision makers. I don't think other teams spend millions of dollars and alter the shape of their team just to spite the rockets. I don't see a problem with openness. I think it just makes things enjoyable for the fans even if things don't always work out.
Does it matter? Morey has never said anything that isn't fairly obvious. I know CD never talks, but do you think he never tried to trade up in numerous drafts where we ended up staying pat? Or tried to seek top-level FA who can make this team more of a contender? Morey's probably talking a lot because he's the new GM. It doesn't really matter to me, since I don't think he'll ever say anything that really tips his hand.
Rashard Lewis, Joe Smith, Alan Henderson, Malik Allen, Melvin Ely, Amir Johnson, and PJ Brown have been named or leaked as free agent targets but then again Morey has this to say: http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/bk/bkn/4935342.html It's against league rules for one team to talk acquiring a player contracted to another team. Smoke and mirrors?
How does Morey mentioning we had a conditional deal hurt the Rockets? Miami, I believe, was the team they had a deal with, conditioned upon Daequan Cook being off the board. Daequan Cook was still on the board when Miami picked, so they got Cook instead of trading the pick. It's that simple.
My point is if everyone has an idea that you have a deal other teams can make better offers. I'm not saying that's what happened in this case.
If other teams wanted to move up to 20 (or "the early 20s"), they would have done so already. Morey didn't say which team, Morey also didn't say which player they were interested in. And as you said, you are not saying that's what happened here. It's not what happened here, so why are you b****ing?
I don't think it's difficult for opposing teams to find out what's going on. All the more reason to keep things between trading partners quiet IMO.This was something CD was pretty good at.
CD sucked at keeping secrets big time. In fact, there were all kinds of rumor going on about Rockets trying to trade up with ATL and MIN for Brandon Roy, so much so that Portland threatened, successfully, to take ATL and MIN's guy (Foye, and Williams) if they were to trade down with Rockets and that spoiled the deal.
