They almost beat our national team twice. Seems like that means they'd take the Lakers who don't have nearly as many stars. comments? [This message has been edited by heypartner (edited May 27, 2001).]
The freaking Olympic team had absolutely no chemistry to speak of. Yeah they were full of stars (so-called), but all they were playing was individual basketball (e.g. Carter). No surprise if they really were beaten by the LU national team. The Lakers, I hate to say this, do have the chemistry needed to win a title. Hope someone will break their chemistry by beating them ... maybe the Bucks! ------------------ Technically speaking, we're #1! ~Portland fans

Kobe and Shaq are beatable. But not by LU. ------------------ "I'm not here to protect my reputation, I'm here to make my reputation! Mama Barkley didn't raise no chumps!" - Charles Barkley [This message has been edited by RocksMillenium (edited May 28, 2001).]
I agree that chemistry was the major problem with the Olympic team. Next time around, the US would be better off sending a team of players used to playing together. ------------------
No, the Lithuanian team would get creamed. However, maybe verse should answer this question....as the Lithuanian team is full of jump-shooters who can score all night but are a little weak on the defense. I bet he'd take the Lithuanians. ------------------ Gascon
The Lakers would crush Lituania. It wouldn't even be close. ------------------ Houston Chronicle: He sat with his teammate and buddy Cuttino Mobley in Philly and they talked about how they had whipped the Sixers and Pacers by about 30 each this season. "Smacked the ... out of them," he said. "We have the talent."
i think alot of nba teams could beat the lithuanians. ------------------ "norm, would you like to buy an indian scalp ? This deal isn't gonna make or break me Norm, so don't jerk me around." Harry Carey "Norm, if I had a mohawk scalp, I wouldn't be sitting here talking to you."
Well, maybe Lithuania would lose to the Lakers, but not Germany, now that Shawn Bradley is going to play on the German national team. If they can get Schrempf to come back out of his retirement, they will already have two All-NBA-Teamers on the team...since Dirk Nowitzki became the first Maverick ever to be on an All-NBA-team. A frontline of SF Schrempf, PF Nowitzki, C Bradley is not all that bad...now we just need to find a German grandfather for Francis and Mobley to join the German team as well... (maybe a German shepherd will do...) and we will be un-bea-ta-bull .
Does Lithuania get Sabonis and a healthy Ilgauskas? If not, their Olympic center Zukauskas would be destroyed by Shaq. Would they play by current NBA rules or world competition rules? Their olympic team would put up a fight but could not match the Kobe/Shaq team (which they missed at this past olympics). ------------------ "I didn't like jr. high when I was there. What would be interesting to watch would be a Euro all-star team against an american one they'd have players like Divac, Sabonis, Kukoc, Stojakovic, the dunking deutschman, etc....Now that might be an interesting matchup with our all-stars...Of course, Lithuanians consider the former yugoslavians as their basketball arch-rivals, so dont know how cohesive it all would be. ------------------ "I didn't like jr. high when I was there. So, You're saying that those three are going to beat the Lakers? Shaq, better than Dirk Grant better than Bradley Fox better than Schremph Not to mention Kobe. The only way, that Lithuania, the best international team, beats the Lakers is with their great jump-shooting. ------------------ Never Underestimate the Heart of a Champion
I was not 100 % serious, my friend... . But since you brought it up - first of all, Dirk and Shaq play different positions - if you really want to compare them, Dirk is certainly more versatile, smarter, has more range and imho he is also a better passer. However, Shaq has this "brute force" aspect to his game that hardly anyone can compete with, so he can dominate just because of his mere physical presence. Nevertheless, Dirk is and, even more, will be the better basketball player (as opposed to just being a force in the paint). Grant and Bradley play different positions as well. Bradley is the more valuable player compared to Grant at this stage in his career, because of Bradley's shotblocking. Even now, I would still think Schrempf is better than Fox. If you compare both players at their peak, it's no contest anyway - Schrempf by a landslide... OK, for Kobe, we don't have an answer yet...but who knows, maybe we will come up with some 16-year old German Wunderkind soon . [This message has been edited by Det The Threat (edited June 04, 2001).]
