Does it look like lead-leading defnese to you? I've seen several Rocket's games this year and to tell the truth, it doesn't look like a suffocating lead-leading defense as it is. Does it look like it to you? If it wasn't mentioned everytime I read an article or watching them on the tube, I wouldn't know it at all. I know it doesn't matter, all that matters is that it is what it is, but from what I can see, the Rockets seem to give up a hell of a lot of layups... and open jumpers... we really do not have an enforcer(s) as many great defenses have had in the past (Laimbeer, Alonzo, Dikembe) So is it Van Gundy's system or the teams the Rox have played? Or both? Are Cato and Yao really that intimidating? Do you think we will be able to keep this up, or is this just a fluke? Not bashing, just an honest question... Stuart
It's a form of man to man, one on one defense. However, in this defense, you pick the weakest link of the other team, and rather than put a whole player on him, you put half. The other half you use on the best offensive option on the other team. What does this achieve? More shots for lower % shooters, less shots for high% shooters. Aside from this, easy layups and going right through the middle is negated by the presence of Cato and Yao. Playing rough is not an option, because Cato and JJ will knowck your sorry ass to the floor if they feel like you're out of line.
Watch yourself sabonis,Turns out if you tell the truth on this board people get mad because they cant handle the truth.
The fact that you are calling it a LEAD-LEADING defense makes any point you make after that look completely foolish. league leading
I just read your bio and it says you are two years older than me. And you are still calling it lead leading? No one ever corrected you? And I need to grow up?
sabonis... four words... "look at the stats". as hard as it is for you to believe, for some reason i doubt that every team that the rocks have faced so far has had an off-shooting game on that particular day. the final score indicates good defense today considering it was double overtime. again, people have mentioned over and over and over again the rox were one of the top defensive teams last year. why take the truth away this year?
"people" heh. thanks Dr of Dunk. Omega, I am not saying the stats are lying, just saying that when I watch the Rockets, it just doesn't look like the number one defense in the league. I guess the phrase that would explain my feeling is "looks can be deceiving..." Just wondering if anyone else thinks the way I do, or if you think the Rocket's D looks as good as it's rank. Stuart
imo, i've been very impressed with the defense, i'm not sure what games you've been watching. i think there's alot more communication this season, people will slide over to cover their teammates, excellent rotation, it just seems more focused. hell if steve is actually looking decent now on that end then jvg is doing quite a job. from some of van gundy's comments and just wathcing we're very willing to take advantage of the league's overall horrible shooting and make teams try win over the top and cut off everything else. marbury even said after the phoenix game that they got more open shots then they had all season but couldn't knock them down.
