ok, the name sounds self-explanatory, but what are these things and what do they look like (screw you, google!)?
I don't know if you have Sprouts in Houston, but in Austin right now they have Lobster tails on sale for $5.99 each. I grabbed a couple with the intention of making... yup, lobster rolls. Last time I got lobster I folded it into mac n' cheese but felt the cheese overwhelmed the lobster, making it feel like a waste. With lobster rolls you get nothing but the good stuff, as long as you don't drown it in mayo. Up in Boston, they have lobster rolls even at chain places like McDonald's, Papaginos. They are everywhere up there. Lobsters are like their hispanic population.
Last time I made them here in H-town, I made homemade mayonnaise. I was careful not to use too much...........but dayum were they good. Love 'em..........but when I'm in Yankee-land, I probably have three bowls of clam chowder for every one lobster roll. Can't get enough clam chowder. Viet Hoa on Beltway 8 and Hong Kong market often have excellent prices on live lobsters.
I like lobster, but I've never found it to be worth the extraordinarily high price. I'd try them, but only if they were $6.
Trust in me. The stuffed Lobster tail at Trulucks on Westheimer is like a Genie french kissing your mouth and THEN giving you 3 wishes. It's that damn good, and I'm not even that big of a fan of lobster either.
Yeah, I'm willing to try a lobster roll and all... but if I've got a lobster tail just hangin' out at my house, I can think of better ways to prepare it than just making it into a tuna salad sandwich. What is the lobster roll's great appeal?
