So the Rockets are fighting for their playoff lives Tuesday night, and there are around 5500 empty seats in the Summit? Does the city of Houston even CARE whether or not the Rockets make the playoffs? I think the league should award the Rockets two extra home games, since every team in the West is getting that treatment by virture of having the Rockets on their schedule twice. COMPAQ CENTER - THE HOME COURT DISADVANTAGE.

can you blame the city? the rockets put out a mediocre product every night despite all the talent.........dont get me wrong, if i still lived in houston, i'd be a season tix holder and be at every game but i can understand why the CC is half empty on most nights

Dont the Rockets have like the 2nd highest ticket prices in the league? I believe theyre pretty highup i think thats the big reason why for the empty seats

The city of Houston has long been conditioned to expect failure from its pro teams. Skepticism is part of the game in this town.

Think it has to do with the fact that the Rockets don't really own their own arena, they rent it and have been doing so since they've been at the Summit/Laptop. Maybe ticket prices will go down next year, that'd be good, and raise attendance....hopefully.

5500 you are joking right Freak

The stadium was at best half full and i think that is generous, I am so disappointed with the turnout

Well, they ARE the second most disappointing team in the NBA behind the Clippers...they're lucky they drew as well as they did

Win and the fans will come. Rockets tickets used to be the hottest ticket in town in the mid-late 90's. Now they can't give the damn things away. The most noise comes from "Mo Betta Bunch" and "Cat's Corner" upstairs. The rest of the fans are more interested in talking on the phone, eating nachos, or flagging down the beer man for a $5.75 Miller lite in a plastic bottle. That's the way things are unfortunately.

If you want to see a loud and rowdy crowd, go to the Erwin Center for Texas-OU, or the United Spirit Center in Lubbock.

I think part of the issue is the best seats are owned by corporate. And corporate fans are often very passive, fickle fans who have tickets but will either not go when something comes up or sit in their seats quietly.

Also, there are a lot of transplanted Houstoniansfrom other cities who are not die hard fans.

The closest thing to die hard fans this city had were the Luv Ya Blue Oilers in the late 70's and Nolan Ryan Astros of the early 1980's.

Haha, I say the same thing, but actually, after hearing about losses like the past two (Portland and Utah), I dont think I'd pay to watch that sh*t...

Most importantly, do the Rockets want to make the playoffs? I don't think they do.

Houston wants the Rockets to make the playoffs. Houston doesn't want to watch ugly ball. Why b**** about the fans and shift the blame? You play good ball, crowd comes. Bad ball, crowd goes. As simple as that. If Houston fans have special libido for supporting sports franchises, why don't you advocate for moving the Rockets to Kentucky or New Orleans? To wherever the fans that fits your "caring" criteria, that is, to waste bucks and come to watch erratic, sometimes stupid and immensely frustrating basketball the Rockets are displaying. Give me a break.

Houston isn't the best city for sports fans. Can't blame them. They've been let down too often. But add to that all the corporate scandals and wintery economic climate. It's not a good situation.

As proof, it's not just the Rockets. Just the other day, the Astros had the LOWEST attendance in the history of Minute Maid Park / Enron Field / Ballpark at Union Station.

yea man. Of course the Rockets want to make the playoffs. It's not the city's fault, it's not the fans fault. It's certainly not Larry Smith's fault. He's not out there setting picks, shooting 3's, freethrows, playing D.

The Rockets as a whole have no heart. Something is going on internally that we don't know about. ANyways, this sucks. We're gonna have to wait until Nov. again. Somethings gotta give.

Even though the Rockets aren't great, there should still be more people going to games. Houston is the 4th largest city in the U.S. But still, no one goes to the games. We are trying to make the playoffs for the first time in years but no one seems to care. But I guess they were pretty smart. Because the Rockets don't have a chance at making it anymore. Hopefully next year, more people will go to games.

What will be the capacity of the new arena?
