Id say MVP yes- because usually its not a fluke a player has a couple of great seasons then a super great season then he wins mvp, they usually dont do it for once a career performances DPOY- No. Marcus camby will not be in the HoF. Ron Artest probably will not. Neither will bowen
MVP definitely. I can't think of an MVP that isn't in the hall of fame, on the way to the hall of fame, or strongly considered for the hall of fame. DPOY is a niche stat. Camby shouldn't be in there, just like Rodman shouldn't be in there due to his rebounding prowess. Steve Kerr doesn't belong because he's the all-time best 3 point shooter, and I don't think Mark Jackson should be in there despite being #2 in assists. Of course, Robert Horry has a slim outside shot due to his clutchness and good fortune to catch on with great teams, but that's probably just me wearing my rose colored glasses.
remember the MVP is an NBA award, HAll of fame is not controlled by the NBA, and the award is voted by media which takes away some merit from it as its more a reflection of their opinion for that year and their wave of whats popular, but as great of a pg I think nash is, i think he is overrated in terms of getting 2 mvps here is a good article on it: http://www.writingthepine.com/2009/09/15/is-steve-nash-a-hall-of-famer/
Looking at recent MVPs, Dirk Nowitzki is the only player that isnt a shoe in hall of famer. He'll probably get in though.
Its not exactly the hardest the in the world to get into the basketball HOF. Its not as legit as the NFL or MLB.
There's not a single NBA MVP that has not made the Basketball Hall of Fame. And you're absolutely a joke if you don't think Dirk is a sure-fire HOF player (and I hate the Mavs and root for Dirk & Co. to fail every time they step on the court). You're also a joke if you don't think a two time NBA MVP is not a lock to make the hall of fame. I repeat, there's not a single NBA MVP that has not made the basketball HOF.
winning DPOY award 4 times (like deke) is different than winning it once (like ron). that's one heck of a career. i'd say he has a good chance.
This is a tricky subject, because it usually does in the NBA (MVP), but strangely in other sports (NFL/MLB/NHL). The NFL is littered with MVPs who essentially don't have snowball chance in #ell of being in the Hall of Fame. While, the MLB list is much worse, I don't think half of those players who have been MVP and are even on the radar for Cooperstown, as well as the Cy Young winners. I guess there operating on the basis that one has to be great or at least very good over there entire career. I know that there is Steve Nash and Dirk Nowitzki who have been somewhat controversial. But, both will probably make it, at some point. The thing with Nash, if he makes that means Kevin Johnson, Jason Kidd, Tim Hardaway, and possibly Mark Price should get automatic bid as well. Why, because, every player I just named has similar or better numbers than Nash's overall career (and two of the players have also been to Finals as well). This is not to say Steve isn't a good point guard, or worthy of a possible Hall of fame bid, because in the given circumstances he is. Though, if any of those other players are not given consideration or even bid, because of numbers or even accomplishments (production) I could point to Steve Nash and say that one of point guards above had a better career in a much tougher era of basketball.
That was another point I was going to make, if you win DPOY multiple times, like Dikembe Mutombo or an LT (Lawrence Taylor).
I wouldn't be surprise if he did. He's done more then Yao. * NBA Champion: 2004 * 4-time NBA All-Star: 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006 * 4-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year: 2002, 2003, 2005, 2006 * 6-time All-NBA Defensive Team: * First Team: 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006 * Second Team: 2007 * 5-time All-NBA: * Second Team: 2003, 2004, 2006 * Third Team: 2002, 2005 * 2-time NBA regular-season leader, rebounds per game: 2002 (13.0), 2003 (15.4) * NBA regular-season leader, blocks per game: 2002 (3.5) * 2-time NBA regular-season leader, total rebounds: 2001 (1052), 2003 (1026) * NBA regular-season leader, total defensive rebounds: 2001 (749) * 2-time NBA regular-season leader, total offensive rebounds: 2003 (293), 2006 (301) * NBA regular-season leader, total blocks: 2002 (278)
I think wallace will make it. I also think Deke will make it too because of his humanitarian efforts.
^ I disagree with Wallace making the HOF. And if Nash doesn't make it, the HOF might as well be considered a joke.
Yao would make the HOF even if he retired today. He's one of the greatest pioneers in the history of the sport not just by virtue of being the first Asian star but more impressively, being the first and only giant to play more than just a supporting role. And it's no secret that I'm not one of Yao's biggest fans.
