Read this caption on the main page of the site for the Lakers win.

When Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O'Neal are on their games, it's tough beating the Lakers. The Sixers found that out Friday as Los Angeles controlled Game 2, winning 98-89 to tie the NBA Finals series at 1. Bryant had 31 points and O'Neal had 28 points and 19 rebounds, and therefore the Sixers had no chance.

The Sixers had no chance because Shaq and Kobe played good games? How biased can you get? Iverson played very subpar, and can play much better. The Sixers couldn't buy a free throw in the 4th. In addition, the Sixers missed several potential 3 point plays in the 4th, to go along with a number of other miscues along the way. The Lakers played very well, but the Sixers were not even close to at their best and they almost stole the Lakers desperation game in LA. Furthermore, what's up with saying the Lakers controlled the game? Last I checked, the Sixers led for as much or more of the game than the Lakers. The lead switched hands throughout. Perhaps for a four minute stretch in the 4th quarter the Lakers had control, but to imply that they controlled the game throughout and that the Sixers had no chance because Kobe and Shaq played well is absolutely ridiculous.

What idiots. The reason Larry Brown and Iverson were so happy after the game is that they know they beat themselves, the Lakers did not beat them. They did not shoot well from the line, or from the field for that matter, and they were still in it until the last minute. Those of you that said the Lakers-Spurs series "would be the finals" should be ashamed of yourselves. [IMG]

BTW, I didn't quite get that comment after the game in the interview w/ Kobe. He was asked about the talking at the end of the game w/ AI, and he said it was "just friendly conversation". Then, after the interviewer said that it didn't look to friendly, Kobe replied something like "this is basketball, nothing is friendly". How can they have a friendly conversation when there is nothing friendly in basketball?

You know the Sixers didn't beat the Lakers in game 1. Truth is the Lakers beat themselves b/c Kobe and Fisher played sub-par games.

The Sixers had a whole lot to do with that... the one on one defense and rotation defense from the Sixer guards was fabulous in game 1, and I seriously doubt no matter what kind of game Kobe came out with that he could've performed much better. Same with Fisher. You have to admit, the Sixers had a lot more to do with Kobe and Fisher's poor performances in Game 1 than the Lakers had to do with Iverson and Bell bricking all those free throws tonight...

Yes, and when they won Game 1 Allen Iverson was the main guy saying, "They won because Allen Iverson scored an unbelievable 48 points"...blah blah blah. I've always felt that the ESPN main headlines are targeted to the more casual sport fans. They just care about how many points Iverson, Bryant, and O'Neal had. They don't care if Derek Fisher stepped up big with about 2 minutes to play. ESPN just goes straight to the point for that reason.

And that is why we are all at CC.net. We are hardcore basketball fans, and we talk about more than the statistics.

BTW, I'd say Shaq did DOMINATE this game though. He actually had 20 rebounds, unlike what ESPN said.

    28 points 20 boards 9 assists 8 blocks?

That is almost unbelievable. He is the only man in the game today that can do that.

The Lakers didn't beat themselves in game 1, the Sixers won the game. It wasn't handed to them by any means. If anything it shouldn't have been that close. If Deke hadn't gotten into foul trouble, LA probably doesn't go on that run in the 3rd quarter. Kobe wasn't just missing shots, he was being covered by great perimeter defenders who bodied him up off the ball and didn't give him in an inch. The Sixers guards play great on and off the ball defense. They forced Kobe to have an off game, because the only shots they were gonna give him were bad ones.

Kobe had success tonight because he got going by snowbirding and getting easy dunks and pullups off the fast break. That got him going. The Sixers are usually better at not allowing teams to capitalize off their turnovers. I don't expect this to happen in game 3.

Despite Iverson's piss poor shooting performance, and Kobe and Shaq playing very well, the Sixers still had a chance to win this game and the Lakers should be worried.
