If so I propose battier+jefferies+1st round pick for Iguadala. This way we resolve the small forward spot's weakness and Ariza goes to the bench. Brook/Martin/AI/Scola/Yao. That starting lineup would be a force to be reckon with.

Iggy's not coming here. Morey doesn't want him here.

We have Martin and at a better price.

Iggy's overpaid and not as efficient as Martin.

    Get over it.

    Igodola / Ariza
    Martin / Budinger

How did you know that? Iggy's a swingman who plays better at SF and is a very good defender. Iggy>>>>battier+ariza combined. Morey pursued him but wanted better young talents with the package.

Why would a rebuilding 76ers want Battier? 55

Morey had his eye on Martin for Years.

Iggy was an option because we needed to get something for T-mac.

Iggy's salary is awful cap space wise and Morey knows this. He's also a player that needs the ball in his hands. He's a second option type player and Martin is that guy for us now.

If Morey really wanted Iggy he would have made it happen.

    Money?

Battier and Jeffries' contracts both expire after next season, so Philly would get a 1st round pick and extra money after the 2011 season.

That's pretty much the definition of rebuilding.

the same reason a rebuilding NY team would want McGrady?

ie - so that they CAN rebuild?

If Philly made that trade, they would only have something like $23million in committed salaries for 2011 (ie - chance to make a splash and add a max FA).

I wouldn't do the trade from Houston's perspective. We get a guy who is overpaid and lose a first round pick so that we can move a guy to the bench who has 1/3rd the salary of the guy we would bring in, but will be perfectly suitable as our SF for a few years.
(translation: Ariza is on a reasonable contract and is a perfectly viable option at SF in a team that has scorers at the 1,2,4 and 5 spots.)

Why bring in a guy who can average almost 20ppg when you already have guys who can score? (Brooks, Martin, Scola, Ming)

I'm glad most of you guys see the bigger picture. Iggy maybe alittle overpaid, but he plays for the sixers who is a crappy team with a bad coach. If he works with adelman, it's going to do him wonders. He's very good defender and an underrated passer. He could play the point forward role and let brook shoot just as much without dribbling the ball as much.

Not to mention he could probably be flipped to a Portland for a R.Fernandez or any other contending team.

uh...what? the problem at SF isnt going to be solved by trading one for another, especially for one that makes twice as much. The problem is we got THREE, not two, legit SFs. Seems like some of you forgot about Bud.

If houston sees battier in their long term plans, they need to trade Ariza...but i dont think they want to. That trio is fine as far as their play, we no longer need more than a role player at that spot. Problem is that trio makes too much combined for their role, mainly Ariza and battier. Best case scenario for Houston would be to explore trades involving battier that make the team better without screwing up their flexibility to make moves, which Iggy would do. You make the trade around the deadline, with a younger team who wouldnt need battier, therefore they'd buy him out. Then battier would return in 30 days cheap. Then slowly the spot rotation would go from battier/trevor to trevor/budinger and battier would fade out as he gets older.

Perhaps this problem solves itself after next season. Battier can either be gone or sign for much lower money.

Do you really think Ariza makes too much money?

Is there a guy who scores 15ppg, gets 5.5 boards, 3.7 assists, and 1.9spg who makes less money? (and is not on a rookie scale contract).

Seems like a fair deal to me (ie - not an absolute bargain, but not an albatross - just fair value).

I think he means 14 million combined for all three.

yeah i mean combined...bud doesnt make much though, so i probably shouldn't have said the trio makes too much combined, just trevor and battier. Individually it's fair, since each can play 35 mins+ and contribute in their own way, but on the same team/spot at least one is overpaid since at least one will get limited mins. Either one and bud makes more sense financially. Plus Bud needs more PT next year to continue his development.

I like Iggy at SF; not so much as SG.

    Screw Iguadola, go for Granger!

I say we give them Battier, Hill, and two first round picks.

    Yao / Anderson
    Scola / Hayes / Jeffries
    Granger / Ariza
    Martin / Budinger / Taylor
    Brooks / Lowry

Now we are a big, championship caliber team. Everyone in the starting line up can take it in, and knock down open shots.

I think the team's next big addition will be a big man, a PF/C to complement Scola and Yao. Morey and Adelman will probably stick with the current guard/SF rotation through at least the first half of next season, so that they can evaluate how they mesh with Yao.

Iggy isn't coming here, If morey wanted him here he would've been playing for the Rox after the deadline...
