I did a search and could not find any recent posts. I thought the last posts came from the hospital. Can anyone shed light on what happened to him? I exchanged some e-mails with him way back. He was one of our insiders, wasn't he?
i also want to know this. i believe his siter wrote something on this bbs for him when he was in the hospital(IIRC). Does anybody know if he is ok?
I have wondered about how pops was doing several times. I am guessing that only Clutch and Doc Rocket would know for sure how he is doing and even then, that is a complete guess on my part.
yea...it was his daughter that was posting for him....IIRC...they were sitting in the hospital and she was typing for him. hope he is ok....but I dont have a good feeling... surely he would have posted at least once during the whole Tmac thing if he was able.
I miss the guy. There's been such turnover with the Rockets, staff etc. that it's quite possible that his inside connections have dried up. But I'd enjoy him posting again even without any scoops.
His last post was after a long hiatus. In the Eddie Griffin suspension thread, no less. On the page before, oeilpere mentions getting some blood work done... It's been a year and a half since he last posted.
I missed this thread earlier, otherwise I would have posted in it. Someone had emailed me a few months ago asking if I had heard that oeilpere had passed away. I said I hadn't heard that. That person had heard it, but was hoping it wasn't true (or wasn't sure if it was true). So I looked in to this but unfortunately didn't find out much. oeilpere's last post on the BBS was in October of 2003, BUT the account was last used (meaning last activity on the board - loading any BBS page at all) on August 15th, 2004. So someone atleast hit the BBS with that account. I also emailed him at the email address I had there for his account, but I didn't get anything back. Sadly, it doesn't look great... but I'm hoping for the best without any other info to go on. He was definitely a joy to have on the board.
Wow. That guy is a dead set legend. Back before every website got rumor crazy, this BBS was a hot spot because of Popeye. Back in 2000 or so (if memory serves) he was on top of a ton of stuff.
He had good posts as well as scoops; Doc Rocket is like that - the posts are scoured for hints, but the actual posts are good. I reall yhope he is okay; it sounded like he had a pulmonary problem if memory serves. Neat poster, I send my best to him wherever he is.
Lots of us have been wondering about Pops. Thanks for telling us what you know, Clutch. It's strange "getting to know" people on the BBS, through their posts, and the responses of members to them. It's crossed my mind before that something could happen to a member, and none of us might ever know that they are truly gone, and not because of poo flinging. We all are wishing Popeye the best, and hope he's laughing at us somewhere, but that he might have passed away is a sobering thought. It makes you want to appreciate even more the special people who grace us with their presence. We've been lucky.
Popeye/oeilpere was a fabulous addition to the site. I used to read his posts with great excitement and always looked forward to him with anticipation. He was one of the greats on the Clutch BBS. I'm very sad to hear that he may have passed away.
