Whats his free agent situation? Is he going to get resigned with the Wolves? and Could the rockets afford to Pick him up if we can't afford Steve Jackson, Jim Jackson, etc..... I think Gary<img src="http://www.nba.com/media/playerfile/gary_trent.jpg"> would be better than Griffin right now and i just would place Griffin at the 3, with Rice,Griffin,Boki behind. (But i dont know alot of people are telling me hes just a poor man Maurice Taylor)
I really like Trent's game. But he would get no playing time here. If you can get him for the minimum, sure go for it, quality bench warmer. Otherwise, pass. I hate the idea of Griff playing sf btw.
Trent can play 4,5. Whats wrong with Griffin moving over to the 3 ever so often so Gary could get some playing time with Him and Taylor alternating on the bench? We could get him atleast 18 Minutes a game, when Cato and Ming are tired as heck. Plus we need a big body to take fouls on Shaq.
Trent can play at the 4 but he isn't a good defender. EG needs to improve his low post game to develop as a four because he lacks the ball handling and shooting skills of a 3.
Trent can't play backup center, he's barely tall enough to play pf. What's wrong with moving Griff to the 3? His 3 point shot is mediocre, his ball handling and passing aren't nearly up to par for being a sf, pulling him out to guard other sfs takes away his weakside shot blocking/rebounding, and he isn't quick enough laterally to guard sfs. Trent would not get 18mpg with this current roster, barring injuries.
I still dont' get why people say Eddie Griffin shot is bad or even mediocre, he shoots 33% from beyond the stripes for 2 years now. That's good enough to be the 3 pt specialist on most teams. The only thing is you really don't want you pf to shoot 3's and only having your center in the low post to battle, but EG has a pretty decent 3 pointer people. That said, Eddie isn't and never will be a quality 3, no handle what so ever.
1) He has one of the ugliest mechanics on his shot in the league. It's so awkward you'll see him not shoot shots because it takes him too long to set up or he places the ball in front of him so far it could get blocked before the shot's up. 2) He shoots a whopping 38% from the floor in his career. By today's standard (seemingly the Age of Bricks) , that may not be too horrible, but it sure isn't good. 3) There were 24 teams in the league that shot at or better than Griffin's 33% from beyond the arc last year. Based on that, no, I'm guessing he wouldn't be the 3 pt. specialist on most teams. If he is, they suck at shooting 3's. I'm looking at NBA.com right now and see they've ranked the top 50 3 pt. shooters in the league last year. The 50th best shot 36%. I wonder if EG would land in the top 75-80? He is no elite 3 pt. shooter; he's not even a very good one.
Great post DoD, but I'd like to add that when Griff misses, it's in an embarassing WNBA fashion(airball), and on a lot of his 3 point shots he's wide open(which is good because he wouldn't be able to get off his shot any other way) because the team wants him to take the shot. boo to griff shooting 3s.
