.......that there could be some collusion by the owners here at the trade deadline to make their point even clearer that the cba needs to be redone?? My thought is.......if there were a couple big deals go down that created another big 3 or a couple more big 3s like the ones we see in Miami and Boston, then wouldn't that help make the owner's case that things need to change in the new CBA?
I see what you are saying but why would teams willingly shoot themselves in the foot for such an extended period of time? If anything, the creation of multiple big 3's will destroy interest in the other teams. Thus a massive loss in revenue, etc.
Good question. I don't think any team will shoot itself in the foot. If they realize they are not going to be able to compete and they need to rebuild, what better time to do it then right before a possible lockout and new CBA and why not go ahead and prove the point of non-competitiveness by gutting their team and rebuilding now?
No, I don't think so. There may be some PR benefit to be won, but what they get in negotiations with the Player's Union won't be won by pulling on the players' heartstrings but by bending them to Stern's will with the financial bludgeoning of a lockout. I don't think any of the impoverished teams would intentionally shoot themselves in the foot for the next half-decade just to prove a point when they are right on the cusp of the potential realization of league parity.
