.... Slowly getting a hint that its Dunlavy and not Brown? I cant put my finger on it, but its there. One day its all Brown.'We want Brown" and now its Dunleavy getting more acknowledgement than before. Are we being prepared to start thinking that its Dunleavy for Head Coach or is this just a Media and Clutch BBS diversion because they have nothing better to talk about?
I think Les should hire Mike Dunleavy because it seems that he really wants the job. He lives in Texas and he is an ex-rocket thats perfect he is a good coach, he is a players coach. Larry Brown would be awesome but all this talk about LA and Denver is starting to give me reason that his first prize and heart is somewhere else. Jeff Van Gundy is just in it for the money which ever team gives him the most money(CAVS or ROCX) he's there. Mike Dunleavy is the man he has personal feelings for the Houston Rockets he knows that he could be the one to rejuvnate his former organitzation. I hope Les notice that Mike is really the only coach who is expressing that he WANTS TO BE HERE! , and that is the key we need someone who wants to be here and stay here for 5-10 years. LETS GO MIKE DUNLEAVY!!!!!
Boredom................... Can Moochie Norris dunk? Hmm....... It's really undecided. Brown is most recognized coach.....and has always helped teams.....but he has a tendency to quit whenever he feels like quitting....and he is 62 years old. Dunleavy is like 50 years old. He was never that good. He has coached more games than JVG. I don't think he's that special. I only like him because he's related to Houston, Texas. And he's a former Rocket. Jeff Van Gundy is only like 40 years old. He's a nice guy. Hmm...don't know if he can control players. I like defense first. Offense.........well all we need is a simple system and just the right coach to prepare players. I'M BORED! By the way, JVG and LB are both 5-9. Texas Stoke......no height preferences or prejudice or bias! Also.....Mike Dunleavy REALLY WANTS THE JOB. He says he wants it. JVG.....well he has options. But I think he wants to come here most. I don't think he's thinkin about money. Larry....well he has no comments. I don't know about him. He's weird....he's doing whatever for Shellie.......
I get the same feeling too. Not necessarily that it will be Dunleavy but more that it won't be Brown. From the newspaper's report it sounded like the Rockets meet with Brown went "well" but not necessarily "great." Who knows, it's all speculation. Hopefully they will figure out this coaching situation soon so we can get someone in here to start working with the team and preparing for the draft and free agency.
ive been behind dunleavy since i read his name in someone's post about 2 possible candidates the day the rudy t story broke..... i had totally forgotten about dunn... i cant give him much props the other coaching candadite he listed was fratello (gag)
Yetti that is so strange but Ch12 was just suggesting that Dunleavy would be the better fit. It sort of gives you that strange feeling.
I don't know enough about any of the candidates to feel like my opinion is worth a whole lot -- so here's my gut feeling... Van Gundy just doesn't feel right. Also, looked upon as walking out on the Knicks. Brown is highly touted for his BB IQ, but has coached longer than Rudy and has two less championships. Plus, he is walking away from a team he took to the Finals a couple of years ago. Loyalty is worth something, too. Dunleavy is a question mark. He DID make it to the Finals with the '91 Lakers and lost. But that's not such a black mark when you consider that Pat Riley won his first appearance in the Finals and then lost the next two. That's enough to get a lot of coaches fired. He hasn't won a championship since he left LA. It begins to look a lot like it has more to do with the mix of players you have and their ability to "gel" or "bond" or whatever, plus developing the focus that propels a collection of individuals to play at a championship level long enough to win 4 out of 7 games. How much a coach really has to do with this is questionable. It could be argued that the '94 Rockets that went from Choke City to Clutch City, did it largely on their own resolve after they felt it was the whole world against them when they went down 3-1 to Phoenix. It didn't hurt to have a center named Olajuwon who wouldn't let them lose. You have to have one guy on the team that believes no matter what the odds appear to be. Someone like Hakeem, Shaq or Michael Jordan... I would argue that Phil Jackson's success as a head coach has had much more to do with the personnel he's had in both Chicago and LA, as opposed to his BB smarts. So far I haven't really gotten a "tingle to my toes" gut feeling about any of the coaching prospects.
If the term "player's coach" means that he (Dunleavy) can't or wouldn't exert discipline, then little would change with the current team. The Rockets are one of the most undisciplined and unstructured teams I have seen at the professional level. Then again, it is probably difficult now for any coach to control mult-millionaire players who think they are "gods." He would have to convince them that he knows how to play the game better than they do.
Actually, Da, if your posts are any indication, no you don't. Dunleavy, while I like him too, is not a disciplinarian. Out of the three, he is the closest to Rudy in coaching style and substance. In fact, out of just about all the choices out there, he is the closest to Rudy. Oh, and I think all of this "I think it won't be Brown" speculation is mostly impatience. Cleveland has been without a coach for longer than us. So has Toronto. So has Atlanta - technically. These things don't just go one-two-three-HIRE! Patience is a virtue.
Jeff, I think Dunleavy will bring discipline, but I also think that Brown will leave us in shambles. I know Larry Brown, I covered the Spurs for KSAT back in the early 90s as a sports intern/reporter. He was a womanizing, arrogant ass, whom soon lost the respect of his players. I think he would do more damage then good, while I believe Dunleavy will be more harsh than Rudy but doing it privately versus in the open. Also, Dunleavy will be here for the duration, whilst Brown never stays too long. DD
