Does anybody know of a place you can donate some extra food for the less fortunate?

We already know we're gonna have more than we need, so we want to give the extras away. I tried finding a place on Thanksgiving, but I didn't have much luck. I'm looking for a shelter or a soup kitchen or whatever where they are serving up a christmas dinner for homeless folks, preferably near where we live on the SouthWest side of town.

If its something you can't drop in the food donation bin at your local grocery store, no organization will take it. They are responsible for the preparation of the food and under no circumstance would they serve food they did not cook.

The Star of Hope takes food donations, my wife and I have given many times when many of her meetings have had extra food. The following link will show the closest one to you and provides a phone number. Hope that helps.

I don't know what you can do with that food, but

Whatever you do, don't give a homeless guy that is asking for money a peanut near the holdays..

I watched a guy the other day reach in his pocket and pull his hand out with a closed fist... then drop the object into the homeless guy's hand. The homeless guy then realized it was a peanut and not change and got reallllllllly mad...

WHAT AM I GOING TO DO WITH A PEANUT? he started yelling....

The guy told him it was good for protein..
