He had a couple of 16 win seasons. Only 30 years old. I think would be at least a good 3rd man in the rotation. Thoughts?

also had shoulder problems all season. I'd ask for a complete physical before making an offer.

If you're going to offer decent money to a oft-injured pitcher, might as well attempt to sign Sheets to a 2 year deal (with a one year option based on incentives... like STAYING HEALTHY).

If they can't get him, Penny could be a backup option... one thing that will be interesting is we know the market has the potential to be a severe buyers one with the economy. If these guys are now making 12-14 million again (instead of the 18-20 million), the Astros should be able to add that sort of player without much consequence.

All signs point to Drayton not adding any big names this offseason. Our opening day payroll will already be around 90-95 mil after all the resignings. Bringing back Wolf is likely going to be considered the biggest move if it happens.

They could actually do a lot worse than Wolf. He can give this team 200 innings with some quality starts... that's something they don't have right now besides Oswalt.

That said, they need one more pitcher.

Agree. I really hope we're able to add at least one more pitcher on including Wolf. I know financially it's not looking good but if we want to compete next year I think that's what we'll need.

Expect Penny to miss at least a quarter of the season (probably more) due to injury. IMHO best case scenerio would be a 7-5 WL record with an era in the mid 4s. The payoff would be If the Astros were to make the playoffs with a healthy Penny. I guess it depends on what kind of deal the Astros could get. He's dammaged goods.

While this may be true, Drayton has time and again shown a willingness to dig deeper into the checkbook than any of us thought he would to make signings that he thinks will put him over the top.

If he keeps Wolf, adding a Sheets or (gasp) Dempster, certainly would have this team playoff bound next year.

    Drayton knows that.

Agreed. If we would be willing to go after Penny, let's just go after Sheets who is the better and more often injured pitcher :)
