Celtics Extend Contract of Head Coach Doc Rivers BOSTON - The Boston Celtics announced today that they have extended the contract of Head Coach Glenn "Doc" Rivers. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed. Rivers led the Celtics to their NBA-record 17th NBA Championship while leading the Celtics to an NBA-record 42 game turnaround. The Marquette grad became the first Celtics coach in NBA history to have been honored as the NBA's Coach of the Month three times in the same season during the 2007-08 campaign. Rivers led the Celtics to their third highest record in franchise history during the 2007-08 season when the team was an NBA-best 66-16. http://www.nba.com/celtics/news/press091008-doc-rivers.html
I think almost any other NBA coach would win a championship with KG, Pierce and Allen. Tell me if I'm wrong.
....Any why wouldn't he? May aswell try and keep that ship afloat for as long as possible. They really should be a finals team for the next 2-3 years if Ray Allen's ankles hold up.
I guess based on the results he deserved it but like others have said, most coaches could have won with that team. He shouldn't be the highest paid coach or close to it, from what I've heard/read of his coaching abilities. Then again how can you not give a coach an extension after winning the championship? Coaches get fired with awful rosters all the time for losing. It only seems right.
Totally deserves it. Coaches have failed to win championships with better rosters. You don't? I hear it all the time and it's just as ludicrous.
