Do you want Yao and China to qualify for the Olympics?

Do you want Yao and China to win the Asian Games?

  1. No, I think Yao will be overworked if he has to play in the Olympics. The Rockets need him rested.

Do you want Yao and China to win the Asia Games and thus win a bid to the Olympics in Greece in 2004?

Obviously if China were to lose in the Asia games Yao would get alot more needed rest than he would if he had to play in the Olympics next year. There is an opinion that Yao is being overworked with playing a full NBA scedule and then shifting his attention and time to work with the Chinese National Team.

Personally I think Yao needs to have rest in the offseason as I believe he is being over worked. But with that being said I know how much pride Yao takes in representing his country and how much it would hurt him if China did not get an Olympic bid. So even though I want the Rockets to have a fully rested Yao Ming, I'd still like to see Yao make the Olympics because I think he deserves it.

    What do you all think?

Is there any other team in the Asian Games that even has a chance of beating China i.e. Japan, Phillipenes, Syria, etc???

This is silly. Of course I/we want Yao to make it to the Olympics. It's only like one in every 4 years. I mean it's an experience of a lifetime for him to be able to get a chance of getting a medal in making history for his country. I mean most NBA players would love to play in the Olympics but there aren't enought room for all. You're not going to sit back and watch your country be beaten and not qualify for the Olympics. I mean even if Yao wasn;t force to play, which we all know he voluntarily will play for China no matter what because of pride and as an idol he want to make a good impression for the younger players following his footstep.

I agree whole-heartedly. Couldn't have said it better myself. One thing that worries me above all else is the possibility of Yao injuring himself, God forbid. Damn, it would suck big time if that happened so close to the start of training camp.

IIRC, I hear a lot about Korea and I think they played in the finals last year, so I guess they are the next best team. I'm only going by what I read here...which basically means I think a Moochie for Artest trade is logical. ;)

As for the question, I'm split. I don't want him tired or hurt, but I also know how much he cares about this all. I'll just let things happen.

I would question Ming's basketball ability if his team were to lose to scrubs. :p

This from someone who started a thread on who would win a game of 21 between Yao and Shaq. :p Well right now 35% of those who voted want Yao to rest during the offseason and not participate in the Olympics.

Maybe the United States should have laid down and not even qualified for the olympics. God forbid Duncan, McGrady, Kidd, or Kobe get tired and overworked...

Has Yao finished his 12 hours in the rice fields today??

I find this thinking a bit naive... while failing to qualify for olympics COULD mean yao gaining an offseason of rest, it will MOST CERTAINLY mean a major setback for chinese basketball and its phylosophies. There then is a chance of chinese bureaucrats starts to thinking allowing their best players to play in NBA is a mistake -- as results indicated -- and starting to take actions to intervene with yao's NBA career.

I'm not saying the bureaucrats would have the upper hand in such a conflict and would be able to order yao home, but surely, this is something we should try our best to avoid.

god forbid what was described happen... and if possible, I would pray the chinese NT winning the olympics next year even if that means yao's gonna represent earth to play a game vs Marsian people...

This is a silly poll. How about "do you want Mochiee run over by a train so we can stop paying him salary?"

I don't think we stand a chance. I hear the Martians can sink 3-pters from their own baseline.

By the way, Is the game going to be on national TV or pay per view?
