I say some coaching changes. Maybe mothing major, but we definately need some better X's and O's.

I like the players and although they have their faults I think they'll be fine with time. I know Cat's on a lot of people's hit list, but I think he really wants to be here and will do what it takes to do that plus he's one of the hardest workers we have. Like it or not it's not that likely that we could replace him with someone better. I think if we had a better offensive system more people would be happy with his play.

The pieces are there and major changes could hurt the team instead of helping. Looking at the big picture, while I do believe this team underachieved this year, things aren't that bad for us just yet. Now if we don't make the playoffs next year, $#it's hit the fan!

Nothing will change... You can just tell that Les will give it one more year to fix itself.

Get rid of Cat or move him to the bench. Get rid of Moochie at all costs(Either that or cut his hair...he must be the anti-sampson). Get rid of Eddie while he is still worth SOMETHING(How successful do you think he'll be if he's afraid to dunk the ball more than 2 feet from the basket?) . Get a new coaching staff(one thats not afraid to tell steve to hurry up and start the offense...seriously, how hard is that to get through someone's thick skull? ). Get some new uniforms. Get a new arena. Get rid of the fella that has us so strapped by the cap that we can't go after any good Free Agents to help the team. Hmmm, thats pretty much it, unless there is a way to put Magic Johnson's brain into steve's body...

if we put in a motion offense i could see the same team returning(what is the record when we have more than 24 assist) But if not some thing has to change. If we trade rice and his 15mil contract that could free up some space for Brand but will that slow yao's development???

Give 'em one more season to get their act together. Barring major injuries, if they fail to make the playoffs for the fifth straight year(or are in the lower half of the conference midway through), then gut the team and build around Yao.

There needs to be major changes for this team to be successful in the season.

I think a change in philosophy is needed. There is a severe lack of team chemistry, any rhythm in the offense, and to much selfishness on this team.

Do we need New Coaches?

Answer: Possibly. Rudy is a nice guy but come on...I could have drawn up a better offense in 80 games. Expecially when you have a center in Yao Ming and a slasher in Steve Francis. Our offense was:

1) Isolation for Francis, Mobley, Yao, and Taylor.
2) Run the clock out and shoot and pray

Not only is this a predictable offense, it is also boring to watch. Mix it up a little.

Where is the motion offense?
Where is the smooth out let passes?
Where is the pick and role?
Where is the cutting?
Where are the role players?
Where are the 3 point shooters?

Do we need to make off season changes to players?
Answer: Yes

Get rid of any player who doesn't fit the system. Listen, you had 80 games to adjust. That is equivilant to playing 3 1/2 years of college basketball which makes you a junior in college. If you cann't learn to adjust by your junior season you won't adjust at all. In fact Players in the NBA should adjust even faster then college players cause 1) You dont' have to think about classes and homework and all that other stuff. You play basketball that is your priority, nothing else. 2) You are playing with the same players, there is no graduation nor incoming freshman class.

This idea that we need time to "adjust" is getting out of hand. The buck has to stop somewhere. But where does it stop? The problem is one of the three: 1) Coaching 2) Players 3) Both

Here is my solution:

1) Get rid of Rudy T. I know this is hard to swollow but the "Buck" has to stop somewhere. Unfortunately, how well a coach is teaching is a direct relationship to what transpires out on the court. So what did happen on the court? Our offense looked embarassing at times and we should have won a lot more games then we did. We lacked mental focus at times and didn't have the determination to win close games. It is up to the coach to 1) inspire the players to go out there and win the games 2) Create a frame work for them to execute and win the games.

I think Rudy T. might be good at inspiring but for sure the players didn't look inspired and our execution was horrible. That is why we need a new coach with new ideas and a better game plan.

2) Get Rid of Any player who didn't fit the system. You know who they are.

There shouldn't be a Yao Ming system or Francis/Steve system. We need to play team ball. Period.

Players I would move around are

1) Mobley
Reason: The guy plays with heart but is not a great shooter. He hustles but lacks a willingness to pass the ball. To self centered to be a positive influence on this team. His best quality is that he can penetrate the opponent’s defense and drive in for a shot; however, we already have Francis who's even better then Mobley at knife through the defense. And only recently has Mobley started playing higher-level defense.

2) Moochie
Reason: He is not a great backup point guard. I'm not even sure what he brings to the team. Sometimes bench players bring energy and up-tempo defense, I'm not even sure Moochie even knows the word "defense".

3) Taylor
Reason: I appreciate his aggressiveness but that is about all he brings to the game. He takes to many outside shots and seems to create shots, which he really is not capable of creating. A power forward should shoot at least .45 percent. Taylor seems to be sup par at .43. More important statistic is points per shot in which Taylor averages (1.05 points per shot). 9 players on the Rockets shoot a higher point per shot average meaning Taylor probably shouldn't shot the ball at all.

**Here are all the players who's point per shot out put is better then Taylor’s... Remember Taylor is a power forward. Power forwards are generally supposed to have higher point per shot out put.

Y. Ming 1.37
K. Cato 1.30
S. Francis 1.29
J. Posey 1.25
G. Rice 1.22
C. Mobley 1.20
M. Norris 1.08
T. Morris 1.06

It's not totally the players faults. There is something with the coaching. :( One has to wonder if in a better system if these three players would have done better. But it is clear that these three hurt the team more the helped this year.

Side note: If Mark Madson can get playing time on the Lakers and be productive why can’t any of our bench and some of our starters also be productive?

Players I want to keep

Yao (7 ft 5, do i need to say more)

Steve (still the leader of this team)

Posey (this guy can play...if he can develop a consistent outside shot--watch out)

Griffin (disappointing but make him work his ass off in the summer. If he can’t do it on the offensive end he is tall/fast/athletic enough to be a great defender)

Nashbar (has anyone seen this guy play yet)

Cato (respectfully good)

Players I would like to get
Point Guard: ?
Power Forward: Elton Brand

Exactly!! Thats what I have been saying all season long! But team members have been working in different directions! Some players and Rockets Management are working towards the future to have the Team to revolve arround Yao Ming as the Star of a Big Mans Team. Some Coaches and Guards are trying their best to mentain the Team as a Guard oriented Team! This problem has never been faced but I claim its the root cause why we havnt played Team Basketball and fould up the season, because we arnt working to a common goal. Selfish is how I would describe our overall chemistry both on defence and offence. This must be fixed and its going to take diciplin and courage by the Head Coach to demand team play and a common goal. Some players that wont make/or cant change should be moved on for better fitting components of the team.

Posted this in another thread...but I still thinks it applies and might tweak some of there problems:

Myself, I would do a couple of things: first I talk to mobley and let him know I'm putting him in a sixth man role...he doesn't like it ..I'd move him for the best thing I could get....Second no disrepects to Rudy or Mean but I follow Dallas's lead here ..I put a seasoned X's and O's coach under Rudy and let Rudy know that next year is his make or break year at the same time grooming my next head coach and by the same token giving mean somebody with some true X's and O's knowledge to learn under....if Rudy or Mean don't like. Then I guess I got myself a new coach. That's were I would start.......

Is that a stupid poll or what?
They mixed apples and oranges!
Of course Yao needs a strengthening program but what does that have to do with the other choices?
