Do you wager on sports on a weekly bases? Just saw "2 For The Money" (not to good) and was just wondering how many people in this forum wager on sports. ps: (hot pick) Take Jacksonville -3.5
Actually I did this alot when I was younger. I financed my college education and a new car, through betting on baseball solely. I still bet today, but not as much as I did when I was younger. The real money is being the bookie yourself though.
No, but I want to start. There's one poster with a signature saying the Rockets have 18-1 odds this year. I definitely think they can go all the way this year, so I wanna put some money down. Since I've never done it, I don't know a good place to start or how to go about it. Anyone?
how does the bookie make his money? How are the odds in his favor? Or does he get a small cut of every bet?
I recommend using Bodog.com. Opening up an account is easy, just follow the link and set up a free account. They also have a 24/7 800 number that you can call to place bets. Bodog is based in Canada, licensed in the UK, provides excellent 24/7 customer service, and it has processed over $6 billion in wagers in the last 12 months. Here are some of the odds they offer: NBA Odds to Win Championship: Spurs 9-5 Heat 14-5 Pacers 7-1 Rox 8-1 Pistons 9-1 Suns 13-1 Mavs 18-1 Live NBA Point Spreads Live NFL Point Spreads NFL Odds to Win AFC, NFC, Super Bowl (Texans 800:1 to win Super Bowl ) Live NHL Point Spreads Disclosure: Bodog is an advertiser for one of my client's websites. They have several sportsbook advertisers, but I think Bodog is the best of the bunch (William Hill is pretty good too, and Ladbrokes is excellent if you live in Europe). I started visiting Bodog when I saw Daniel Negreanu talk about them at the 2005 WSOP. Their poker site is not as great as their sportsbook stuff, though. They've also done some awesome charity work, including a "salute the troops" charity event in Hawaii, featuring Snoop Dogg. Oh yeah, they also know how to find hot chicks:
I start the football year with one 50 dollar "sure" bet. This year it was Georgia over Boise St. This win gave me a little bit of cash to spend on bets for the rest of the season, both college and pro. I usually make about ten different $10 bets each week, normally I go about 6-4 or 7-3 on my bets.. I hope to make a nice little profit by the end of the year.
I've used vipsports.com for 5yrs but I heard betusa.com was good too. vipsports has Rockets 20-1 odd to win it all I've already put down my 100.
I bet on the occasional game. Everybody up here are Cowboys fans so when they play then Eagles I get a few bets thrown my way. I also bet on Beat the Hosts on Inside the NFL. Me and a friend bet some money on whoever had the better record at the end of the season.
I use wsex. It was recommended by Lance on 610am Ive heard bodog was pretty good, but never tried it.
I wouldn't use Bodog as they always post lines late and seem to have bad numbers on favorites. If you are looking for a place to bet on underdogs then it may work better for you. I have been betting on sports for the past 5 yrs, nothing major though, just small bets on baseball, football, and basketball. I do it mainly to keep my interest in games that I watch. Fortunately it 5 years I have never had to pray for a team to win in order to pay my mortgage for the month. I usually set aside an amount for each month and play it till i lose. If anyone is looking for pointers, I may be able to help out.
I was thinking, it would be fun if we started a game to see if sports betting is even reasonable. for example, if we all were given 1,000 fake dollars at the begining of the basketball season and you could place fake "bets" by posting a day before the game starts. if we all used the same website to get lines and odds... it would be interesting to see who makes money. heck, i'll probably do it in a little excel spreadsheet to see what happens.
I do it professionally... my favorite books are: www.pinnaclesports.com www.sportsbook.com www.sportsinteraction.com www.bodog.com www.thegreek.com If you want to bet on sports seriously, you need at least 5-10 books available. This way you are assured of getting the best line available at all times. Also don't be afraid to bet on bad teams. For example tonight I'm betting Baltimore +13 at Bodog. It's a grind but you can make some money at sports if you be smart and stay disciplined.
Thanks for the help vwiggin and Luckyazn; I'll go check those places out. Time to earn some easy money thanks to the Rockets.
Im scared this would develop into a bad habit for me. I do it occasionally in Vegas when I go, but thats about it. Im just not that experienced, and fear that I would never be able to get out of a big hole. Unless someone can convince me otherwise......
